How to Enter a Meet

HOW TO ENTER SWIM MEET:

Process Overview

  • Families must declare by committing or declining to a meet through the edit commitment function located on each meet page.
  • Families must declare for each meet individually.  There is no ‘select all meets’ option.
  • Families must declare for ALL their swimmer’s target meets to be entered into any meets.
    • If a swimmer in undeclared for one or more of their target meets, they will not be entered into any meets.   Coaches will reach out to all families with outstanding meet declarations.
  • Events will not be available to select.  Coaches will select swimmers’ events after the declaration period has closed.
  • Basic meet information is included in the meet page for a specific meet.  Some meet information has not been published by the host teams yet.  We will update as soon as we have that information.
  • Meet declaration deadline is midnight of Wednesday, April 11th.  Following that deadline any changes to a swimmer’s meet commitment must be done through their primary coach.

How to Declare for a Meet:

  1. Log into your account.
  2. Go to the home page.
  3. Click on a specific meet.
    1. Meet pages can be found through the swim meets tab
    2. You can also find the meets below the main photo of the website
  4. Thoroughly read the meet information located on the meet page (especially whether this meet targets your swimmer’s group).
  5. Click the edit commitment button.
  6. Declare your commitment.
  7. Write any pertinent information in the notes sections (ex. if a swimmer can only attend one day of a multi-day meet write their availability in the notes section).
  8. Click save (unsaved commitments will show up as undeclared).
  9. Repeat for the remaining target meets for your swimmer.
  10. Important note: if a swimmer has not qualified for a meet yet but would like to attend if they qualify in the future, please commit to that meet.  Do not leave it undeclared.

Meet Briefs

Mayflowers Meet

Mayflowers is an assigned meet.  With very few long course pools available in the greater Seattle area, the demand for space in Long Course meets is high.  Much like Challenge meets during the Short Course season, the assigned meets ensure that all teams have access to an early season meet.  Gold time standards are required by event.  Swimmers have up to 2 bonus events per day they have a qualifying time.  For example, if a swimmer has a Gold time for an event on Saturday they have 2 bonus swims for Saturday.  However, if they don’t have a qualifying time on Sunday, they may not use their bonus event on Sunday.

Apple Capital

Apple Capital is a SMAC tradition.  This is a fun, family travel meet (families make their own arrangements) in Wenatchee.  This is an outdoor meet, so families should plan accordingly.  There are no time standards for this meet so the whole team is welcome.

Mel Zajac International Meet

Mel Zajac International meet is held annually in Vancouver, BC.  This is a family travel meet, meaning families will arrange their own travel and accommodation.  Swimmers must have one or more Futures qualifying times in order to attend.

Pac Coast Meet

Pac Coast meet is a no times standards meet with a unique format.  12&Under events are timed finals (meaning you swim your events once and are ranked based on those times).

13&Overs have a session on Saturday that is prelims with top qualifiers moving on to the finals sessions on Sunday.  The events that are included in this prelims/finals format are the 50s of each stroke and 200 IM.  Following the prelims session on Saturday and the finals session on Sunday, the 13&Overs have time finals sessions that include the events not included in the prelims/finals sessions.

Senior Open

Senior Open is one of the two meets hosted at Colman pool in West Seattle.  Time standards are included in the meet information.  SMAC is required to support this meet and the Age Group Open as part of the agreement that allows us to practice at Colman pool throughout the summer months.

In general, Senior and Senior Performance will attend Senior Open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday and attend Prothero Sunday only.  Any exceptions will be confirmed by coaches with individual athletes.

Mark Prothero

Mark Prothero meet is an invitational.  As the moniker implies, teams must be invited to the meet to enter.  Prothero requires Silver times for 50s and 100s and Gold times for events 200 and longer.  There are no bonus events at this meet.

Age Group Open

Age Group Open is the second Colman meet that SMAC attends at Colman pool.  AG Open requires Silver times for 50s and 100s and Gold times for events 200 and longer.  11-12 Silver and Gold Times apply to 10&Unders (10&Under Silver and Gold Times do not apply).  Swimmers are allowed up to 2 bonus events per day they have a qualifying time.

In general, AG, Fit, AGP will be attend Friday and Saturday of Age Group Open and Sunday of Dick Hannula Grand Challenge.  Any exceptions will be confirmed by coaches with individual athletes.

Dick Hannula Grand Challenge

Dick Hannula and Grand Challenge have traditionally been two separate meets with different time standards.  The meet information has not been published, but we assume that it will follow the Grand Challenge format of no time standards and de-qualifying times standards of Champs times (if an athlete meets a de-qualifying time they are not allowed to swim that event at the meet).

In general, SD, SR, and SP will attend Friday of Age Group Open and Saturday and Sunday of Dick Hannula Grand Challenge.  Any exceptions will be confirmed by coaches with individual athletes.

Senior Champs

Senior Champs is the open (no age groups), championship meet for Pacific Northwest Swimming (PNS).  Time standards are Senior Champs times.  This is the season culminating meet for swimmers not attending higher level meets (Futures, Age Group Zones).

14&Under Champs

14&Under Champs is the championship meet for 147Under athletes in PNS not attending higher level meets (Futures, Age Group Zones).  Time standards are 14&Under Champs times.

Junior Nationals

Junior Nationals is the top national level meet for 18&Under athletes, not yet attending college.  Summer Junior Nationals is typically a faster qualifying time than the Winter Junior National meets (Dec).  Coaches of qualifying swimmers will provide more information about the best meet for their athletes: Junior Nationals or Futures.

Futures Championship

Futures is a championship meet for much of the western area of the United States.  This is a team travel (team travels under team arrangements with coaches and chaperones) meet is located in Santa Clara, CA.  The time standards are Futures Championship times.  Swimmers will only Futures cuts will attend Futures Champs.  Athletes with Junior National times will discuss with their primary coach about the best meet to attend.

Age Group Zones

Age Group Zones is a selection meet, where athletes compete for PNS as an All-Star Team.  In addition to making the Age Group Zone Championship time standards, athletes must be selected by a coach panel to attend.  This is a PNS team travel meet, supervised by coaches and chaperones.
