Year Round Swim Team
GATO offers a progressive age-group program in which technique, goal-setting, and hard work are the foundation. There is also a major FUN factor built into the program. We use stroke drills and games designed to develop excellent swimming techniques, which will lead to a sound foundation for the swimmer and faster times. Starts, turns, and how to finish races are also taught for all the competitive strokes and events:
- Individual Medley (IM): A race using a combination of four different strokes. This race is swum by one swimmer in order Butterfly, Backstroke, Breaststroke, and Freestyle. IM can also be swum by four swimmers as a medley relay.
Development of the swimmer continues with advanced training concepts including longer training sessions, nutrition, race strategy, and mental preparation. Our coaches believe swimming is but a single component in the development of a young person. Positive support from parents, who understand that swimming is not the be all and end all for their child, is crucial to their development. Swimming teaches discipline, hard work, goal setting, trial and error, success and failure. We encourage team members to be involved in other activities such as church, music, community service, as well as to achieve academic and scholastic success.
Reasons our swimmers participate in our program:
- Learn and improve skills
- Have fun and stay cool!
- Exercise and achieve optimum fitness
- Make new friends
- Prepare for high school swim team
- Experience the excitement of competition and team travel
