Interested in Coaching for DC Wave?

The DC Wave Competitive Swimming Program is seeking experienced, enthusiastic, and motivated individuals with excellent communication skills to join our coaching staff.  Coaches are responsible for between 9 – 12 hours of on-deck coaching per week, and can expect to attend 1 weekend swim meet per month. Hours depend on assigned training group and coach availability.

Desired Qualifications:

  • High School Degree or Bachelor’s Degree (preferred)
  • Desire & passion for developing swimmers at a competitive level
  • Patient and gives simple instructions
  • Strong communication, organizational, and administrative skills
  • Expertise with current technique development and training methodologies
  • Enthusiastic and highly motivated team player
  • ASCA Level 1 certified or above
  • Team Unify /Hy-Tek Meet/Team Manager skills (A Plus)
  • 2 years competitive swimming experience (preferred)
  • Current CPR, First Aid, Coaches Safety, and Safe Sport certifications and membership in good standing with USA Swimming

Basic Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create and implement a season plan for swimmers
  • Plan, prepare, and conduct team practices in accordance with the DC Wave curriculum
  • Provide appropriate competitive swimming instruction for youth ages 14 and younger
  • Provide personal and social development for lifetime skills
  • Develop and improve the technical and physical skills of swimmers
  • Provide a fun and enjoyable environment
  • Orient young people to competition
  • Communicate and correspond with swim team parents regarding practices schedules, meets, and team events
  • Attend and participate in all staff meetings as requested by the Head Coach
  • Attend all swim meets in which swimmer’s from under their direction are attending (usually one to two meets per month)
  • Collaborate with the entire staff to develop benchmarks for measuring our swimmers’ improvement and increasing opportunities for all swimmers on the team
  • Track swimmers’ attendance and results. This includes individual goal meetings with swimmers on a seasonal basis and any additional meetings as needed
  • Assist in program administration where needed
  • Assist with Swim Team Prep program where needed
