Derek Finn, Head Swim Coach
Derek has swam competitively for 18 years, 10 of which were in Ohio. Derek brings a wealth of perspective that he gained swimming for a Y.M.C.A swim team while in Ohio. Derek won several high points and age group championships awards as a swimmer. Derek swam one year for the Mason Manta Rays before moving to Oklahoma. There he swam two seasons for the Jenks Trojan Swim Club and decided to focus on the high school team. He was a four time State qualifier, and part of the boys’ 12th and 13th time State Championship team. In the 2007-2008 swim seasons Derek placed 3rd in the 100 breaststroke at the state meet.
While taking 2 years off competitive swimming, Derek began coaching for the Jenks Trojan Swim Club where he coached beginning swimmers to sectional qualifiers. He coached 60+ swimmers, over 30 of which were age group qualifiers and coached the top 12 and under girls I.M. in the state. Derek left Oklahoma to swim for the University of Cincinnati in 2010 and continue his passion for swimming and coaching. Derek has been Head Coach of the Mason Water Moccasins for the past 3 summers of which the Mocs placed 1st in TriCounty Division II and 3rd place in TriCounty Division I.
Derek is looking forward and is very excited to instill his love and passion for the sport of swimming to all your swimmers this summer as the Head Coach of the Hy-Crest Bullfrogs.
