Volunteer Job Descriptions

ALL POSITIONS:

Home and Away meets:  When you arrive at the pool, please sign in the book that is at the Clerk of Course area. (Home meets- Table near the entry gate. Away meets- Team area)

Most jobs require volunteers to be at the pool for the entire meet (approx. 5 hours), however, there are a couple of positions available as a “half meet” job, meaning that we have volunteers for the first half of the meet and volunteers for the second half of the meet. You can sign up for both halves, but we’ve tried to make it convenient for parents of younger swimmers who don’t need to stay for the entire meet.  Each half is approximately 2.5 hours, including check in time.  Timers, Relief Timers, Concessions and Runners are available as half meet jobs.

Timers:

First half timers must be at timer meeting 30 minutes prior to the start of the meet to ensure all timers are present.  Check in is behind the starter/computer table. First half timers will time at the beginning of the meet until the end of backstroke. Second half timers need to check in with the Volunteer Coordinator (Home meets: Diving board, Away meets: Behind current timers) during 15-18yr boys backstroke so they are ready to time when breaststroke begins.  Second half volunteers will go until the end of the meet.  Timers will stand behind lanes and record all times for swimmers.  You might get splashed while volunteering for this job.   2 pts per half

Relief Timer:

This person checks in at the timer meeting 30 minutes prior to the start of the meet to ensure all timers are present. Check in is behind the starter/computer table.  You will stand with the Head Timer to be ready to relief timers.  First half relief timers will time at the beginning of the meet until the end of backstroke. Second half relief timers need to check in with the Volunteer Coordinator (Home meets: Diving board, Away meets: Behind current timers) during 15-18yr boys backstroke so they are ready to time when breaststroke begins.  Second half volunteers will go until the end of the meet.

 Clerk of Course:

Volunteer is responsible for an age group (i.e.: 9-10 girls).  You will assist the head clerk of course in lining them up in the team area and walking them to their correct lane.  You will stay with them and move them up to ensure they do not get out of order and miss their race.  You will need to check in with the head clerk of course at swimmer check in to assist with swimmer check in and get your age group assignments. 2 pts. per half meet

Heat Ribbons:

This person checks in at the timer meeting 30 minutes prior to the start of the meet to receive the heat ribbons. Please stand near the head timer by the computer table.  2 pts per half

Place Ribbons:
