It truly takes an Army to make the swim season a success. The Fort Myer Swim Team requires families to participate in volunteer opportunities, both in support of swim meets, as well as non-meet activities. The following provides information about the critical jobs that make a swim meet run smoothly, as well as jobs that are needed throughout the season. There is something for everyone so please sign-up to help us out!
Both Saturday (A) and Wednesday (B) meets require specific volunteers on deck:
- One certified Referee
- One certified Starter
- Two certified Stroke and Turn judges
- One Head Timer
- Three Timers per lane (9 per team)
- One Clerk of Course
- One Announcer
- Two Time Recorders (computer support)
- One card runner (however, two are more efficient)
- Team representative
Swim meets CANNOT BE HELD WITHOUT AN ADEQUATE NUMBER OF CERTIFIED OFFICIALS FROM OUR TEAM.
Mandatory Points & Volunteer Sign-up
The team tracks family volunteering by awarding 1 point for each hour volunteered for swim meets and other team events. Each family is required to volunteer for a minimum number of 10 points during the season. Failure to meet the minimum number of points may result in being wait-listed for registration for the following year.
For the 2018 season, all families are required to volunteer for at least 10 points.
Families are required to use the team's online system to sign-up for volunteer positions. Prior to each meet or team event, the FMST volunteer coordinators will send all families and email with a link to the volunteer sign-up page.
