Fall Swim

Fall Swim and “Intro to Swim” are 9-week programs that run Monday through Thursday, starting Tuesday September 5th through Thursday, November 2nd, led by coaches Sean Horan and Megan Calderazzo.  Each program option gives swimmers opportunities to gain experience with appropriately challenging workouts, proper stroke technique training, and learning through play!

Fall Swimming Program

Sycamore’s fall swim programs are open to all swimmers who have completed one full season of a summer recreational program. Minimum requirements to participate in the fall swim program is a lap of freestyle and backstroke, each under one minute with proper head position (including side breaths).  Tidal Rays and and Level 3 Little Stingers who are unable to meet these requirements may be placed in our “Introduction to Swim Team” program outlined below.

Tentative schedule will be finalized upon completion of registration.  New swimmers may be placed in an earlier group time; for example, new 8 or 9 year olds may be placed with the 4:00-4:45p group.  Advanced swimmers may be asked to “swim up” and will be at coach's discretion.  Mid-season adjustments may be necessary pending daylight.

We anticipate at least 2 Fall swim meets, which may be against neighboring swim teams.  Meets are recommended but not mandatory, though practices may be adjusted or cancelled on meet days.  There are no additional fees to participate in meets.

Introduction to Swim Team

This program is designed for swimmers 7 and Under who have not participated on a full swim team before.  Differentiated instruction geared towards swimmers with no swim team experience will be provided with focus on basic stroke techniques which make swimming easier, and introducing all four competitive strokes.  As new swimmers progress, they may attend additional practices from 4:00 - 4:45 or shift to this new time at the coach's discretion.  This is not a "learn to swim" program and skill requirements will still apply.

  • All swimmers must be water safe, and comfortable with goggles. This includes having no fear of water, being able to put their face in the water, and being able to move to the safety of the wall/lane line on their own without assistance.

  • All swimmers should be able to swim across the entire length of the pool without assistance (25 yards) for both freestyle and backstroke, at any speed.

  • All final decisions are at the coach's discretion to ensure safety of all swimmers.

Tentative Practice Schedule*

  • Intro to Swim Team: 3:30p - 4:00p M-Th, with mini swim-assessments in August or on the first day of practice.
  • 7 & Under’s: 4:00p - 4:45p
  • 8-11:  4:45p - 5:45p
  • 12 & Up’s: 5:45p - 7:00p

* Times are set, but some swimmers may be shifted.
