High School and Middle School

Season runs September - February

What are the grade requirements for the competitive teams? High school students must be registered in grades 9-12. Middle school students must be registered in grades 6-8.

Do my students have to be proficient in all the strokes? No, all abilities and levels of skill are welcome.

Where do I practice? This is a little confusing for those new to the sport. There are two options from which to choose your practices. You can either join a USA Swimming team or the training program.

Many of our high school and middle school athletes choose to compete with a competitive USA Swimming team (Memphis Thunder, Bartlett Extreme, Germantown Gators, etc). They practice with their USA Swimming team and participate in MHEA meets and social events. They are on two swim teams.

For those new to the sport and not ready for the level of commitment as well as cost of a USA Swimming team, the training program is your place to practice. The purpose of the training program is to give swimmers a place to practice in a more relaxed atmosphere. Several MHEA swimmers have decided that they wish to go further in the sport potentially swimming in college. If your swimmer wants more than the training program can give, we will help you find the best USA Swimming team to fit your needs.

How many meets? When? Where? MHEA high school and middle school teams compete against local private and public schools within the Shelby County School Swim Leagues.

Six seasonal high school meets are usually held on Thursday evenings at St. Georges Independent School. There are two high school championship meets held at the end of the season - county and state. Swimmers are required to make at least 3 seasonal meets in order to participate in the The County championship will be held in town at a pool determined later in the fall. The State championship is usually held in Nashville or Knoxville. Qualifying times are required for both County and State championships.

Four seasonal middle school meets are held on Saturdays at St. Georges Independent School. The County championship is also held at St. Georges at the end of the season. There are no qualifying times for the middle school championship.

We hope to see you in the pool!!!
