Meet Letter

Hello Swim Team Fams!

Our first home meet is rapidly approaching. Meets give your swimmer(s) a chance to cheer for their teammates, build camaraderie, improve skills, set and strive for goals, and have a lot of fun!

Please review the following information about meets below:

• Please have your swimmer(s) to the pool no later than 4:00 p.m.

• If you are volunteering at a home meet, please arrive at the pool at 4:40 PM in order to assist in step up and receive further instruction.

• Meets begin promptly at 5:00. Warm-ups start at 4:30.

• Swimmers meet outside the front entrance for each home meet to get their event numbers from their coaches.

• Coaches will tell each swimmer which events they are to swim in and write the numbers on the swimmer’s arm prior to the meet.

• Please review the order of events to familiarize yourself with the meet sequence.

• e.g. - If your swimmer meets with their coach and has the numbers 2, 12, 40, 70 written on their arm, they will be competing in the following events:

• Girls 8 and Under Medley Relay

• Girls 8 and Under 25 freestyle

• Girls 8 and Under 25 backstroke

• Girls 8 and Under Free Relay

• Swimmers typically participate in 2-3 individual events and 1-2 relays each meet.

• Once the pool doors open, swimmers will enter and set up the camp area.

• Team camp area is usually on the east side of the pool near the park fenceline.

• Things to bring to swim meets include:

• Lawn chairs for parents and/or blanket to sit on for swimmers. Spectators typically sit on the north end of the pool. (nearest to Luther College)

• Shade device/sports umbrella (some pools have no shade)

• Sunscreen

• Swim gear – swimsuits, goggles, cap, towels, etc.

• Drinks, if desired (please avoid pop) juice, sports drinks, water, etc are good choices. If you freeze a bottle, it will melt slowly.

• Food, if desired, nutritious foods are best, veggies, fruit, sandwiches, Jell-O, granola bars, etc. - Pool concessions will be available.

• Dry clothes and/or warm clothes for cool or wet weather

• All items should be labeled so they don’t get lost. Additionally, no valuables should be brought to the meets.

• The clerk of course will announce when swimmers need to report for their event(s).

• Swimmers are responsible for listening and reporting when their event is called.

• Coaches and volunteers will help to ensure that swimmers report on time.

• Review the order of events to familiarize yourself with the meet sequence.

• All swimmer(s) are welcome to sit by and talk to parents anytime during the meet.

• Please encourage your swimmer(s) to clean up their area.

• Any ribbons won will be available at practice the next day.

Coaches and volunteers make every effort to ensure swim meets are a positive experience for swimmers, especially our young/first-time team members. Coaches will be available to answer questions, help swimmers line up, remind them of what stroke they are swimming, and encourage swimmers to do their best before, during, and after a race.
