Swim Coaches

Coaches’ Role
Our talented and experienced coaches are responsible for teaching strokes and techniques, designing daily practice sessions, making team assignments and keeping records of times, representing LMT at League meetings and sharing their love and enthusiasm for swimming. They are available after practice to discuss your child’s progress.


Anyone interested in coaching must email Board President, Sandy Borowsky prior to April 1st. Coaches will be notified by May 1st.

Head Coach Swim Team:

 

Kathryn (Young) Mireles

A swimmer for LMT from age 8, Kathryn continued her swimming career at Tri-Hampton YMCA as well as Pennsbury High School. In College, Kathryn swam 4 years at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania. After returning to the area, Coach Kathryn now coaches for Tri-Hampton YMCA and works for the Council Rock School District as a speech-language pathologist.

 

 

 


Swim Team Assistant Coaches:

Melanie Hoover 
Before coming to LMT, Coach Melanie coached for the Newtown Swim Club. Her coaching career began as she developed a true passion for the sport of swimming and working with children while she witnessed her now grown children enjoy and thrive in the sport.  Coach Melanie also coached for the Spirit Swim Team in Newtown and Tri-Hampton YMCA swim team.  Throughout the year you can find Melanie at the Washington Crossing Tennis Center where she is employed as the League Manager.

 


 

Gary Garretson

Coach Garretson is extremely excited for his third year coaching at LMT this summer. After swimming at The Peddie School in Hightstown, New Jersey for 3 years Coach Garretson swam at Division 3 national power Denison University in Granville, Ohio. While in college he continued to excel in the sprint freestyle events and developed into an NCAC conference 200 IM finalist.  After graduating from Denison he coached for two seasons at Bridgewater Raritan High School East in nearby Central New Jersey.  Currently, he teaches middle school math at William Penn Middle School and has been doing so for the past 14 years.  He is looking forward to passing his enthusiasm for the sport to your developing athletes.​



 

Katie Blemings

Coach Katie began swimming at Newtown Swim Club and then was fortunate enough to become a coach for NSC for five years. Katie swam at Notre Dame High School as well as at Catholic University and was captain of both teams. Katie coached at the NAC and now coaches for THY year-round. Katie also serves as an Assistant Coach at Notre Dame High School which is where she works as a School Counselor.--


 


 

Casey Young

Coach Casey began swimming at LMT when she was 6 years old and continued her career at Pennsbury Aquatic Club (now PENN Aquatics).  She swam for Pennsbury High School for 4 years becoming Captain her senior year.  Casey currently coaches the Council Rock Club Swim Team.  When she is not on the pool deck, she teaches 6th Grade math.

 

 


 

Madeline Barlow

A swimmer for LMT from age 9, Coach Madeline continued her swimming career at Tri-Hampton YMCA as well as Pennsbury High School, being both a YMCA National and PIAA State Qualifier.  In college, Madeline swam four years at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania, specializing in Butterfly and IM. Upon graduating from Bloomsburg, Madeline continued her education at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, receiving a Master’s degree in Psychology and is now working towards a doctoral degree in Exercise and Sport Psychology at Temple University. Madeline has been a coach at THY for the past two years and this will be her seventh season with LMT. She is looking forward to a fun-filled season!--

 
 
Katy Oeste

As a first year coach at LMT Katy is excited to be back on the pool deck. Katy moved to the area 6 years ago from Kennett Square, PA where her swimming career began. She swam for Kennett Square Golf and Country Club from ages 8-18 and was an assistant coach for her last three years on the team. She was a 4 year varsity swimmer at Unionville High School and Captain her Senior year. Katy continued her swimming career at Albright College where she competed for 4 years and was captain for her Junior and Senior year. She also helped the girls team to win the MAC championship in 2008.

 

 

Tim Groth

Coach Tim swam for LMT for 11 years, since the age of six, and has coached for the past five summers. LMT instilled a passion inside Coach Tim for the sport of swimming, and he eventually become a member of the Tri-Hampton YMCA district team and a varsity swimmer for Notre Dame High School.  Tim just completed his sophomore year at James Madison University, where he competes for the JMU Club Swimming team. 

 

 

 

Rachel Samson

Rachel first started swimming for the Newtown Swim Team at the age of 6. She also swam for Eastern Express Swimming and Council Rock High School North where she was captain her senior year. Rachel was a PIAA District and State qualifier. She recently completed her  Sophomore year as a student athlete at Arcadia University studying Healthcare Administration. Her main events are the 200 free, 200 IM, and 400 IM. 

 
 

Hannah Maslow

Hannah started her swim career at age 10. She swam for Tri Hampton YMCA and is a 2017 graduate of Pennsbury High School, where she swam for the high school team. Hannah recently completed her freshman year at Penn State University.--

 

 

 


 

Lindsay Harkins

Lindsay started her swim career at age 5 at LMT. From there, she swam for Penn Aquatics before moving to Tri Hampton YMCA. Lindsay is a 2017 graduate of Pennsbury High School, where she swam for the high school team. Lindsay recently completed her freshman year at The University of South Carolina.

 

 

 

 

Jenna Fox

Jenna has been an LBSL swimmer since the age of 5 and swimming competitively since Jenna has been an LBSL swimmer since the age of 5 and has been swimming competitively since the age of 7, most recently with the Lower Moreland Swim Team. 
Jenna just completed her freshman year at West Chester University where she studies marketing and is part of the Varsity Women’s Swim Team. Jenna competes in the 500 Freestyle, 1000 Freestyle, and 1650 Freestyle and captured 3 top 8 finishes in her first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championship. Jenna is looking forward to joining the coaching staff at LMT for her third season and cannot wait to be back on deck this summer!--
 

 

 

Shirley Samson

Shirley first started swimming at Newtown Swim Club at the age of 9 and then finished out her final season in the lbsl at Brookside. She swam club at Eastern Express and for her high school at Council Rock North where she was a 4-time district qualifier. Shirley recently graduated from East Stroudsburg University with a nursing degree. She also swam at the collegiate level where she was a 4-time qualifier of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference swimming the 100 Breaststroke, 200 Breaststroke and the 200 IM. --

 

Cassie Meade

Coach Cassie began swimming at LMT when she was 5 years old. She started as a swimmer coach for LMT from '07-'10 and came back as a full-time coach for the '11-'12 seasons. Cassie studied English and Art at Elizabethtown College. Upon graduating, Cassie moved to Washington, D.C. to pursue a career in Web Design. She'll be Joining us for the summer before heading to graduate school at the University of Washington in Seattle.--

 

Christie Nemceff

Christie first began swimming at LMT at the age of 6. She also swam for Tri-Hampton YMCA and for her high school, Villa Joseph Marie. Christie recently completed her freshman year as a D1 student-athlete at Monmouth University studying Business Marketing.

 

 

 

 

Swimmer Coaches
 
 

Miles Borowsky

Miles has been swimming competitively since the age of 6. Miles swam for 4 seasons at Spirit followed by a transition to Tri Hampton YMCA, his current club team.  Miles is a rising senior at Pennsbury High School where he has been on the varsity swim team since his freshman year. This summer marks Miles' 11th year at LMT. When Miles is not at the pool, you can find him jumping rope.
 

 
 

Jacqueline Rounsival

Jacqueline has been swimming since she was nine years old. This summer will be her fifth year on the LMT swim team. As a rising senior, she has been a part of Council Rock North High School’s swim team for the past three years and is also on the George School Aquatics Swim Team.
 

 

 

Madeline Doucette

Competitive swimming has been a big part of my Maddy's life since the age of 6. Maddy joined LMT when she was 8 years old. She now swims for Penn Aquatics and for her high school, Nazareth Academy where she is a a rising senior.  

 

 

Brooke Garretson

Brooke starting her swimming career on the LMT swim team when she was 5 years old. She started swimming year round at the age of 8 on Penn Aquatics, and at 11 moved to the Tri Hampton YMCA, where she is currently swimming. Brooke is a rising junior at Pennsbury High School where she has competed on the varsity swim team for the past two years. 

 

 

Joshua Belder

Josh has been swimming for LMT for the past 5 years. Josh also swims for Tri-Hampton YMCA and for the Council Rock South Golden Hawks where he is a rising senior.

 

 

 

 


*Swimmer coaches must
1. have been a member of LMT Swim team for at least 2 seasons. 

2. must have demonstrated their desire to participate and interact with their team members in the past.
3. should have attended a large majority of practices, meets and team events.
4. should have demonstrated their positive attitude on deck, in the pool and throughout the community

 

Candidates must email Board President no later than April 1st with the following information:
1. Why you wish to be a coach
2. What experience you have that would make you a good coach
3. What is your availability from the start of the season through the end of the season
Candidates may be asked to provide letters of recommendation including 
one from a academic standpoint (i.e. teacher) and one from a community standpoint (i.e. club advisor, NHS, church/synagogue leader, etc).

No coaching positions will be guaranteed to anyone


*Paid swimmer coaches must be members of the swim/dive team AND either:

1.    rising High School Seniors (or recent grads)
or
2.    rising High School Juniors IF they have previously been a volunteer coach the previous summer
