MCST Swim Practice Covid Plan

Martinez Community Swim Team practices will operate in accordance with the guidelines provided from the City of Martinez, which are in accordance with the Contra Costa County Health Services guidelines. These plans are subject to change with input from the City of Martinez based on current guidelines in Martinez, Contra Costa County and the State of California.

Swim Practice Plan

1.There will be two groups in the lap pool: up to 32 swimmers, up to 5 per lane.

2. There will be up to seven 8 & Unders at a time in the splash pool for practice

3. Swimmers will line up for practice inside the gates on chalk marking on the pool deck. Coaches walk swimmers to their pre-assigned lanes.

4. At the end of their lane, each swimmer will leave their bag and clothing on the deck during practice.

5. There will be up to 5 swimmers per lane following the USA Swimming guidelines. They will be split between both ends of the pool.

6. Practice will end with enough time for swimmers to quickly grab their mask, clothes & gear and exit at the side opposite from where they entered. Exit will be on Marina Vista.

7. Swimmers who struggle to get across the pool safely and exhibit any signs of fatigue may be asked to exit the pool.

 

Equipment

1. Swimmers will bring all their own equipment to their lane each day.

2. All equipment must be taken out of the facility at the end of practice. No individual equipment can stay at the pool.

3. No sharing of equipment between swimmers in the facility will be permitted. 

4. Water polo balls will only be used in the pool during practice and may not be used anywhere in the facility except during practice.

 

Drop Off & Pick Up

1. Except while in swim practice, facemasks will be worn by swimmers from the time they exit their vehicle until they enter the vehicle at pick up. The only exception will be during the swimming portion of practice.

2. Swimmers will be dropped off in the unloading zone on Buckley Street. This is the north end of the pool by the main entrance & MCST Coaching office.

3. Swimmers will enter the gate and get in lines with their assigned group. There will be 6 foot socially distanced markings for two lines of swimmers inside the main entrance. All swimmers will be preassigned a line. 

4. Swimmers in the splash pool may have a parent or sibling walk them into the splash pool area to meet their coach or the Covid Monitor.

5. Coaches of the swimmers in the splash pool will meet their swimmers at the splash pool gate and walk them into the gated area of the splash pool.

6. Drop off will be encouraged.  Parking is available in the parking lots by the baseball fields, along Buckly, and at the lower end of the pool along Talbart.

7. At the end of practice swimmers will exit using the lifeguard/emergency exit on Marina Vista Ave. Coaches will walk the swimmers down to their cars on Talbart.

8. Swimmers who drive: during spring practices may park, enter, and exit along Buckley Street by the lifeguard room and coach’s office, and during summer morning practices may park, enter, and exit on the south side of the pool on Marina Vista Avenue.

 

Parents Observation of Practice

1. One parent of each swimmer in the splash pool may stay in the facility to watch practice.  Parents will stay between the fencing of the splash pool and the building on the side of the pool by the lockers. 

2. One parent of each swimmer in the lap pool may sign up to stay with the pool area one day each week to watch practice. Parents may register weekly in a Sign-up Genius for a day of their choice.

3. Other parents are not allowed on the pool deck unless there is an emergency (exceptions will be made for swimmers who have pre-existing medical conditions that require parent monitoring).

4. ALL parents who choose to stay and watch practice must wear a mask and stay at least 6 feet apart from others. 

5. Parents may bring a chair or blankets from home. Benches and picnic tables are off limits during swim practices.

6. Any parents watching the lap pool must stay on the lawn towards the perimeter of the facility along the fence. 

7. Parents will not gather outside the fences or gates during swim practices.

 

Locker Rooms & Bathrooms

1. Swimmers will wear their suit to and from the pool each day. There will be no changing on the pool deck into or out of  swimsuits.

2. Locker rooms and showers will be off limits to swimmers and their families.

3. Restrooms will be open with one designated stall for MCST swimmers/the public. Coaches will not allow more than one swimmer to enter the restroom at a time.

4. Restroom will be cleaned after each use by the Covid monitor.

5. Restroom use will be limited to use by swimmers only. Parent use is not permitted at this time.

 

Keeping Swimmers Safe

1. Parents will not send swimmers to practice who exhibit any signs of illness.

2. Swimmers will be required to wear a mask to and from the pool each day.

3. Coaches may wear either a mask or face guard while instructing a group.

4. Swimmers will be preassigned to a consistent group and a lane. 

Coaches will primarily coach from the middle of the pool on the edge by the swimmers.  Coaches will wear a mask or faceshield at all times

5. Social distancing will be practiced and reinforced by the coaching staff. 

6. Starting blocks, flags, cones, and chairs will be used to help designate different areas for lines and equipment.

7. Keelan Kirshen, MCST Head Coach, will be supervising and managing the staff on a daily basis.  A Covid Monitor or an assistant coach with Red Cross Lifeguarding, will monitor the facility for social distancing and cleanliness.

 

Covid Monitor

1. Covid Monitor will be responsible for assistance with social distancing. Swimmers will be lined upon entering the facility before each practice.

2. Covid monitors will ensure that only one swimmer at a time is allowed in each bathroom. Bathrooms will be wiped after each use.

3. Parents will be checked in to view each practice based on sign ups.

4. Covid monitors will be scheduled in advance in the daily coaching assignments.

 

 

 

 

MCST Swim Meet Covid Plan

(For Home Meets at Rankin Aquatic Center)

Martinez Community Swim Team practices will operate in accordance with the guidelines provided from the City of Martinez, which are in accordance with the Contra Costa County Health Services guidelines. These plans are subject to change with input from the City of Martinez based on current guidelines in Martinez, Contra Costa County and the State of California.

 

Swim Meet Guidelines:

 

1. Team Areas: There will be no team areas within the facility at this time. Swimmers will wait for races outside the fenced areas by their cars or lined up along the sidewalks surrounding the facility. Swimmers may bring their own chair, food, and water. No personal items may be shared. 

 

2. Entry & Exit from team area: Swimmers will enter the pool to warm-up & compete on Buckley Street. This is the north end of the pool by the main entrance & MCST Coaching office.  After races or warm-up swimmers will exit using the lifeguard/emergency exit on Marina Vista Ave. Swimmers will be encouraged to wear shoes.

 

3. Race Staging: Swimmers will line up in order by lane from 8-1 in three staging areas. Spaces for lanes 8-1 will be clearly marked and spaced 6 feet apart.  The 1st staging area will be outside Lifeguard’s office. The 2nd area will be along the shallow end of the pool. The 3rd staging area will be on the east side of the facility near the diving well.  Swimmers will NOT be allowed into the pool area until 3 heats prior to swim.

 

4. Masks: Swimmers must wear masks to the blocks over your ears, take off mask immediately before swim; immediately following race swimmers may towel off their face and then loop mask over ears. Swimmers exit in order from lane 8-1 to parking areas.

 

5. Competition: Home team 5-8. Away team 1-4. Exit in numerical lane order with parents to Marina Vista Street. Relays will have designated empty lanes to allow for social distancing.

 

6. Team warm-up: up to 5 swimmers per lane at alternating ends of the pool. Home team 5-8. Away team 1-4.

 

7. No team gatherings/team cheers

 

8. Parent volunteers: 8 timers, 2 computer operators, 1 announcer, 1 starter & 2 referees. Up to 6 coaches in the facility at a time. COVID Monitor to watch bathrooms & help load swimmers into the 1st staging area. Timers will be rotated after each portion of the meet and timing equipment will be sanitized between each user. Timers will provide their own chairs. Set up & takedown will be limited to reduce parents in the facility and in the storage room. No concession stand will be operated.

 

9. Spectators: One parent per swimmer may be in the facility at a time. Parents will progress through staging areas with swimmers until they exit after the race. Parents who choose to enter the facility with their child to watch the meet must wear a mask and stay at least 6 feet apart from other families. 

 

10. Locker Rooms & Bathrooms

1. Swimmers will wear their suit to and from the meet. There will be no changing on the pool deck or locker rooms.

2. Locker rooms and showers will be off limits to swimmers and their families.

3. Restrooms will be open with one designated stall for MCST swimmers/the public. Coaches will not allow more than one swimmer to enter the restroom at a time.

4. Restroom will be cleaned after each use by the Covid monitor.
