The Montgomery County Swim League (MCSL) sponsors competitive swimming and other activities among the swimming pools and organizations in Montgomery County, Maryland. The goals of the program include helping young people establish a love for the sport of swimming, advanced aquatic skills, teamwork, and the principles of good sportsmanship.
The League consists of 88 teams from swimming pools around Montgomery County. They are clustered in groups of 6 by speed in Divisions A-O, with Division A comprising the most fast and competitive teams. The Washingtonian Woods Waves are in Division L in 2019. The League also dictates the swimming age groups. They are divided into 8 and under, 9-10 years, 11-12 years, 13-14 years, and 15-18 years. Male and female age groups swim separately. The swimmer is placed in the age group with the age they are before June 1st. For example, if your swimmer turns 9 years old on June 3rd, he or she would still be considered an 8 and under swimmer based on MCSL rules. In addition, swimmers are allowed to swim for an older age group if needed. This happens frequently with the Waves because we are missing swimmers in some age groups.
MCSL determines the swim team calendar, which is made up of 5 “A” meets, 5 “B” meets, a Divisional meet, a Relay Carnival, a Long Course meet, an All Stars meet and an All Star relays meet.
