Gator Coaches

Chase Helseth: Head Coach (8 and Unders & 15-18s)

How long have you been a Gator?
I have been a Gator since I was eleven years old.  That means I have been a Gator for eleven years now (and typing that makes me feel really old.)

What is your swimming history?
I began swimming as a Willow Creek Barracuda when I was eight years old and became a Gator (best decision ever) when I was 11.  Through the years I have swam for several teams including ACES, DU  Hilltoppers (TOPS) and Arapahoe High School.  At AHS I was a state qualifier, team captain, and a four-year varsity swimmer.  I am also a swimmer for the club swim team at Colorado State University (GO RAMS!), where I also study Finance. My favorite events are the 200 IM and the 100 Backstroke.  Truly after over a decade of swimming, I cannot imagine my life without it.

What is your coaching experience?
This is my fourth year as a coach for the Gators and my second as the head coach.

What do you most look forward to this season?
I am looking forward to watching all of the swimmers on the team improve throughout the season.  It is always amazing how much better we look, as a team, at Championships as opposed to our first meet.  This improvement is something I love seeing, and am looking forward to again this year.

If you would live anywhere, where would it be?
I'm pretty happy with where I am now.  I love having the city of Denver, but also being able to escape humans and go to the mountains.  Boring answer I'm sure, but it's true.

Taylor Verbsky: Assistant Coach (11-12s)

How long have you been a Gator?

I have been a gator since I was 11, so this will be my 8th year as a gator.

What is your swimming history?

I started swimming at age 3 at the YMCA. Since then I have swam for SGCC, Aces Swim Club, and Arapahoe High School. At AHS I was a team captain my senior year and a state qualifier my sophomore through senior year. I just finished my freshman year swimming for the University of Findlay.

What is your coaching experience?

I have junior coached at SGCC for about four years before becoming a coach, and I am an assistant coach at the YMCA

What do you most look forward to this season?

I am most excited to see all the progress that all the swimmers make, and seeing all the friendships that develop throughout the team.

If you could be an animal, what animal would you be?

I would be a duck because I love the way that they waddle around, and I think they are super cute! Plus they can swim and walk on land.

Courtney Helseth: Assistant Coach (9-10s)

How long have you been a Gator?

I’ve been a Gator since I was 8 years old so this is my 11th year on the team!

What is your swimming history?

I started swimming when I was 6 years old so this is my 13th year as a swimmer. In my 13 years, I have swam for many teams including Willow Creek Barracudas, SGCC Gators, Aces Swim Club, DU Hilltoppers, Lifetime Swim Club, and Arapahoe High School. For Arapahoe, I swam on varsity all 4 years and I was a state alternate my senior year.

What is your coaching experience?

I have been a Junior Coach for the Gators for 3 years now. I also coached for the Littleton Youth Swim Clinic this past school year.

What is your favorite thing about the Gators?

My favorite thing about the Gators is how close knit we are as a team. Not only are all the individual age groups close, but I feel the team as a whole is very close. It is so cool to watch older kids hang out with and cheer on the younger ones and vise versa.

What are you most looking forward to this summer?

This season I am super excited to be an official coach! This has been something I have looked forward to since I first joined the Gators. I’m really excited to get to know all the swimmers better and watch them all improve as the season progresses. I am also super excited (and a little sad) to swim my last season as a Gator.

What is your irrational fear?

I choose this question because I have a lot of really irrational fears. I think my biggest is heights. I can be on a step stool and look down and be scared.
