2021 Coaching Staff

Andrew Barashkoff,  Head Coach

I am excited to be coaching at Newport Hills this summer, it was my home away from home my entire childhood. I grew up participating on the Newport Hills summer league since I was seven years old until I graduated in 2016. Since then, I have taken my love for swimming and devoted it to coaching. I have coached a total of four summer league seasons, three at Newport Hills and one at Maple hills. Also, I have coached two seasons of high school swimming at Redmond High. Most recently, I have coached club swimming at Chinook and EAST. My main goal of coaching is to provide each swimmer with the fundamentals of swimming by focusing on technique and building confidence in each swimmer regardless of ability. Also, to help swimmers develop their passion for the sport of swimming. Excited to be back, GO SHARKS!

Cole Shultz

I am extremely excited to be coaching Newport Hills this summer and give back to the community that raised me and taught me how to swim. I started my swimming career here on the Newport Hills summer swim team when I was six years old, and the wonderful coaches I had the privilege of learning from pushed me to further pursue the sport. I eventually joined King Aquatic Club when I was ten but continued to swim in the summer for NHSTC until I was thirteen. Once I went to Newport High School, I left King to compete for the water polo and swim teams, becoming captains of both for my senior year. I have also been teaching swim lessons here at Newport Hills for the past three summers, and it is my number one priority to foster a love for the sport in every kid I can. Once kids become passionate about the sport, they will then expand their skills and adopt the sport as a lifetime fitness and leisure activity, which is my long-term vision for every Shark on our team. I am so excited to be on the coaching staff this year and GO SHARKS!

Katie Park

Hello Sharks! My name is Katie Park. I’m really excited to join the Newport Hills Swim Team. Although I did not swim for Newport Hills, I grew up on a summer league swim team in Virginia until I moved to live abroad. To this day, I have fond memories such as playing Sharks and Minnows and donuts after morning practice. I have been swimming almost all my life with nine years of club swimming (currently with Bellevue Club). My favorite and best stroke is backstroke. This year, I was one of the captains at the Newport High School Girls Swim and Dive team. As a coach, my goal is to help build a strong team and make close connections with swimmers, by encouraging and supporting them. I want swimmers to improve as swimmers but also to experience the fun of swimming that keeps them coming back. I can’t wait to get to know this team and to create fun experiences and memories. GO SHARKS

Shay Sanders

I am really looking forward to coaching swim team this summer! I swam for Newport Hills since I was ten years old, coached two seasons of winter swim and helped coach two seasons of summer swim team. My favorite part of coaching is the opportunity to get to know the swimmers on the team and teach the fundamentals my favorite sport, all while creating a positive and fun environment for everyone.

Shannon Gifford

My name is Shannon and I am currently a sophomore at Stanford University. I started swimming at Newport Hills when I was six years old and have been swimming ever since, completing 13 seasons with Newport and 5 years on a competitive club team. I have helped coach two Newport summer swim seasons as well as the 2020-2021 fall and winter sessions. I hope to share my love of this sport with all ages and skill levels by building a foundation in stroke technique, increasing endurance, and having fun while doing so. Happy swimming!
