NCH Swim Team Job Descriptions

Announcer:
Announces pertinent meet information on the PA system.

 
Clerk of Course/Bullpen:

Bullpen volunteers line up and lead each heat of swimmers to the pool deck, making sure that each swimmer reaches the correct lane.  Your assistance may also be needed to locate swimmers who have not reported for heats, within reason.  Sign up for this job if you enjoy communicating with kids of all ages and don't mind a little exercise during the meet.  As you coordinate the duties with your partner, you should be able to take short breaks to watch your swimmer's events


 
Head Timer:
Maintains stopwatches, assigns timers to lanes and at home meets conducts the “timers’ meeting” prior to the meet. Acts as a relief timer during the meets. Collects and puts stopwatches away at the end of the meet.
 
Timers:
Time each race in the assigned lane and records the times for the scoring personnel.
 
Runner:
Brings timers’ sheets and DQ cards to the scoring table.
 
Scoring:
Organizes timers’ sheets and DQ cards, compiles data on the computer to determine scores.
 
Griller:
Works in the concessions area cooking various food on the grill.
 
Setup/Concessions:
Setup the pool deck and concessions area prior to the beginning of the meet, moderate lifting may be required. During the meet, workers will sell
concessions (food, drinks and snacks) in the concession area. (When your child is swimming, someone in the concessions area can temporarily cover for you.)  This job is during the first part of the meet.
 
Cleanup/Concessions:
During the 2nd half of the meet, workers will sell concessions (food, drinks and snacks) in the concession area. (When your child is swimming, someone in the concessions area can temporarily cover for you). At the end of the meet, workers will breakdown the concessions area, swimmer area and clean up the pool deck. Moderate lifting may be required.
 
Officials:
Includes Starter, Referee, Stroke & Turn Judges. Judges the legality of the swimmers’ starts, strokes and turns. Disqualifies swimmers if rules are broken. **Special training is required for this job.
