•Do returning swimmers need to tryout?
Yes, ALL swimmers will need to tryout on one of these four dates of March 20, 21, 26 or May 22nd. There have been many changes over the last year and while we've always had to navigate team capacity limits, this year as we begin we are more restricted than ever before. We simply cannot fit every returning swimmer in the water for April and May.
We will be launching the team in phases, tryouts will help our coaches place swimmers in the most appropriate group. Phase 1 will begin April 5 and Phase 2 will begin in June, as timing is dependent on the HS Water Polo schedule. Placement in either Phase will depend on the number of swimmers who tryout in each age group and overall.
•What will be the Monthly rate?
- Registration Fee will be credited toward 1st month’s payment
- Fees will be charged on a month-to-month basis. (No sibling discounts will apply)
- 5 Day notice required to withdraw. There will be no refunds offered once billing has processed for the month.
•Will it Cost extra for meets?
When we are hosting a "home" meet, we do not plan to charge our swimmers for participation in the meet. There will be "away" meets of various types that we'll attend. The "away" host team may require an entry fee based on their own discretion.
•How much is a USA Membership?
There are multiple levels of USA Swimming participation. We will make recommendations for your swimmer upon placement into their group.
"Premium" - Valid through DEC 31, 2021, no limit on meets entered during this time. $91.75
"Individual Season" - Valid through AUG 31, 2021, no limit on meets entered during this time. $50.75
"Flex" - Valid through DEC 31, 2021, limited to only 2 sanction USA Swim meets during this time. Eligible to upgrade to premium at any time. $21.75
"Outreach" - Same as Premium, but requires proof of eligibility for low-cost program. $8.00
*How long is the season / when will it begin & end?
The new team program will begin on Monday, April 5th. Unlike past Wave seasons, each swimmer will be registered on a month-to-month basis which will automatically renew unless notice to withdraw is sent to the team Registrar. However, much like past Wave seasons, the competition schedule will increase as we enter June and culminate in August before we take a break heading into the "back to school" season.
•What if we just want to do Splash?
All swimmers who would like to participate with RST this summer will need to tryout. Swimmers will be placed in appropriate training groups based on their assessment at tryouts. We cannot guarantee that we'll be offering a second round of tryouts for summer spots, which would include Splash level swimmers. If we still have open spots, the kids who tryout in March will have priority for the spaces that become available.
•What if we don't want to start until June (ex: a multi-sport athlete or High School swimmer)?
All swimmers who would like to participate with RST this summer will need to tryout before joining. Swimmers will be placed in appropriate training groups based on their assessment at tryouts. We cannot guarantee that we'll be offering a second round of tryouts for summer only spots. If we still have spots available, the kids who tryout in March will have priority for the spaces that become available. We strongly encourage trying out at one of our March dates in order to increase the chances of securing a spot with us in June / Summer.
•How will this be different from what Wave was?
The differences for the swimmers are meant to be nearly undetectable. This new program is intended to only ADD opportunities that will benefit the kids. The Rocklin Swim Team Mission has not changed. We are still fully committed to providing a fun and positive team environment that promotes progress for all involved. A more detailed description of the changes will be available soon.
•What happened to NCSL?
In 2020, the NCSL was canceled. As of writing this, the NCSL still exists but has not provided a definite answer as to whether it will be capable of functioning in 2021. In order to ensure that RST is able to provide the best opportunity for our kids to swim this year, we made the proactive choice to step away from the league for 2021.
•Who will we be having dual meets with?
An unexpected "positive" development (pardon the pun) of the Covid restrictions is that USA Swimming teams have been limited to only participating in dual meets. Therefore, we will be able to have dual meets with any Summer Rec team AND any USA Swimming team that we choose (neighboring counties only as of now). Again, this decision should only ADD opportunities for our kids.
