Swim Groups

The Waukegan Dolphins Swim Team is divided into three practice squads:  White, Green and Blue. 

  • Swimmers will be assigned practice groups by coaches based on swimming ability.
  • It is possible for a swimmer to change groups during the season.

 

White Squad (Developmental)

Skill Requirements:

Must be able to complete 25 yards of backstroke and freestyle  unassisted.

Squad Emphasis:

Swimmers in this group will learn basic stroke technique in all four strokes in a progressive manner. Turns will be an emphasis as well as continuing improvement in freestyle and backstroke. Starts will be introduced gradually.

Progression:

Swimmers can progress to Green if they can swim 50 Free/ 50 Back/ 100 IM all with legal turns.

Equipment Required:

Fins, Kickboard

 

 

Green Squad (Intermediate)

Skill Requirements:

Capable of swimming 50 Free/ 50 Back/ 100 IM all with legal turns.

Squad Emphasis:

Swimmers in this group will continue refining correct stroke technique of all four strokes as well as turns in a progressive manner. Starts, turns, underwater work, dry land exercises, swim sets, and pace clock work will all be taught in this group.

Progression:

Swimmers can progress to Blue if they can swim a 500 Free and legal 200 IM.

Equipment Required:

Fins, Pull Buoy, Kickboard

 

 

Blue Squad (Competitive)

Skill Requirements:

Capable of swimming a 500 Free and legal 200 IM.

Squad Emphasis:

Sound stroke technique will be emphasized in this group, as well as sound technical skills such as starts, turns, and underwater work. Advanced stroke technique, endurance training, dry land and stretching will be integrated into this group throughout the season.

Equipment Required:

Fins, Pull Buoy, Kickboard

What you need to bring to practice:

  • Practice suit

  • Towel

  • Swim cap

  • Goggles

  • Equipment pack (fins, pull buoy, Kickboard )

  • Lock: we recommend that ALL items left in the locker room are locked up.
