Junior Penguins Swim Lessons Program- A USA Swimming Foundation Make A Splash Local Partner and Grant Recipient

In 2015, the Team launched the Junior Penguins Swim Lesson Program to focus on developing Newport and area children's water safety skills and, for those children who are interested, helping them prepare for Team participation.  Participants are potty-trained children who are not yet Team ready because they cannot swim the full length of the 25 meter pool in freestyle stroke and on their back without assistance, among other readiness requirements.  Junior Penguins receive swim lesson instruction from American Red Cross certified Water Safety Instructors (WSI) at no more than a 6:1 ratio of participants to WSI instructor.  The individualized instruction sessions seek to make participants water safe, as well as to develop confident and capable swimmers.  Additional details about this year's Junior Penguins Swim Lesson program are available under the "Policies and FAQs" tab on the website Home page.
