B Meet Basics

B Meets are held on Monday evenings and they are designed to give developing swimmers a chance to compete and improve their skills. B Meets are not NVSL sanctioned and are not scored meets. There are no relay events at B Meets. Ribbons are awarded to every swimmer. Swimmers are encouraged to sign up for events on Monday morning after practice. Swimmers may sign up for the B meet online in the Swim Meet section of the Events tab on our Homepage. B Meets begin at 6:00 pm with visitor team warm-ups beginning at 5:30 pm.

Events are the same as in A Meets, with the addition of a 6 & Under age group in the Freestyle and Backstroke events. Also in B Meets, the 13-14 and 15-18 age groups are combined into one event. Finally, Individual Medley (IM) events are added for 10 & Under, 11-12, 13-14 and 15-18 age groups. There are usually multiple heats of each event for younger swimmers.

Swimmers may enter no more than two events in a meet, in addition to the 100 IM (if available at the B meet; the 100 IM is not always an available event at B meets).

A swimmer is eligible to swim any event in a B Meet except an event for which the swimmer earned a first, second or third place in the immediately preceding A Meet.

Swimmers are not allowed to age up and swim in a different age group at "B" Meets. The only exception would be any 6 and under legal in breaststroke and butterfly may swim with the 7-8 year olds so they are judged fairly for any potential disqualification.

In order to ensure a positive experience for all of our swimmers, if the coaches determine that a swimmer cannot technically and accurately perform the stroke and may therefore get disqualified, they will not be approved by the coach to swim the event at a B meet. The coaches will work with swimmers on their technique in practice. This prevents swimmers who are learning new strokes from the negative experience of disqualification until the swimmer is ready.
