Lifeguarding at MVP

(manager@moragavalleypool.org)
All Lifeguards at MVP have a minimum of 30 hours of professional training from the Red Cross.  MVP Lifeguards hold current professional Red Cross certificates in Lifeguarding, First Aid and CPR. The Red Cross Professional Lifeguarding course is available to any swimmer who has reached the age of 15 and can swim 500 yards (20 laps) continuously, of freestyle and breaststroke and retrieve a 10 lb. diving brick submerged 7 feet under the water, return to the surface and swim 20 yards using their legs only.

The Red Cross states that a Lifeguard’s primary responsibility is to ensure the safety of swimmers at the pool and protect lives, including their own.  Lifeguards achieve this by minimizing or eliminating hazardous situations or behaviors.  They educate swimmers about the pool rules and enforce them.  MVP Lifeguards  give the Red and Blue Badge tests to swimmers who want to swim outside the three feet area. The Lifeguards are responsible for giving First Aid, receiving Pool Swim Lesson Registration, collecting the $3.00 Guest Fees and checking out sports equipment from the Pool Office.

MVP Lifeguards are also responsible for various daily maintenance tasks assigned by MVP Club Manager.  These maintenance tasks include taking chemical readings of both pools every four hours, cleaning the main trap in the pump room and refilling the chlorinator with chlorine briquettes, cleaning the skimmer baskets around the pool, hosing off the deck and bathroom floors, cleaning the bathroom mirrors and fixtures and refilling the soap, shampoo, toilet paper and paper towel dispensers.  MVP Lifeguards also pick up overlooked chairs, lost and found, and trash left around the deck and grounds. They are responsible for transferring the recycling and trash to the collection bins.  MVP lifeguards also help with set up and take down during swim meets. All MVP Lifeguards receive a 10-minute break at the beginning of every hour during the pool rest period.  At the end of the day the Lifeguards pull the covers over the pool.  All current MVP Lifeguards are seasoned experienced guards.

The MVP Lifeguards wish everyone a fun and safe summer at the pool!
