Parent Responsibilities and Work Commitments
Parents of our swimmers are responsible for staffing home meets, away meets, invitationals, and social events. Without parent involvement, the swim season couldn't happen! Each family with one or more swimmers under age 15 is responsible for earning 8 job points: 2 social events, 4 regular swim season, 1 Sleepy Hollow B Invitational and 1 OMPA. Most jobs are worth 1 point.
Families with only Mini Legend swimmers are responsible for 1 Sleepy Hollow B Invitational job and 1 social event job.
Families with swimmers ages 15-18 do not have volunteer commitments.
Some of the swim (non-social) jobs are "sub allowed", meaning that you can hire a sub to fulfill the commitment. None of the social jobs are "sub allowed". Choose your jobs wisely! If you sign up for a volunteer job and do not show up, you will be fined $200. Your involvement is crucial to the success of the team! Coaches deeply appreciate the time and support that parents provide.
Substitutes ***IMPORTANT - Please read carefully
Please carefully review the rules regarding the use of substitutes for Parent Obligations in our Substitute Policy. Failure to follow these procedures will result in a fine, as outline below.
Workers should report to the Social Event Chair or Meet Director as soon as you arrive for your shift. Workers/subs will be considered late if they have not checked in 20 minutes prior to the start of the event or meet.
Please be on time for your commitment.
Failure to Fulfill Obligations and "No Shows"
Any Swim Team family that does not show up on time for a work assignment (meet or social) will be fined $200.
Failure to follow the Substitute Policy for Meets will also results in a $200 fine to the Swim Team Family. This fine must be paid to the Swim Committee within two weeks of the missed obligation. If fines are not paid by the end of the season or if the family incurs more than one fine in a season, the family's right to enroll in the following swim season is forfeited. If a Swim Team Family fails to fulfill its obligations during the swim season on more than one occasion, additional action may be taken by the Swim Committee, in its discretion, during the pending season. Our team operations are only possible through the joint efforts of our parent volunteers, and we rely upon our families to all pitch in.
SH B Invitational Staffing
All families are expected to fulfill one work commitment for the SH "B", our team fundraiser. If you do not plan to be at the meet, you MUST hire a substitute (see Substitue Policy). Let our SH B Volunteer Coordinator know that you are planning to hire a substitue immediately since many assigned jobs cannot be covered by a teenager. Shift lengths can run anywhere from 4 - 6 hours. The substitute fee for this meet is $75.
All families are expected to fulfill one work commitment for OMPA and bring one designated item for the swimmer’s food table. Let the OMPA Volunteer Coordinator know if you are planning to hire a sub as soon as possible. Some jobs are not available to sub out such as set-up, food table maintenance, and take down. Shift lengths are about 3 hours. The substitute fee is $75.
Sleepy Hollow Swim Team and Coaches are appreciative of the time and support that our parents provide for our children.
Please carefully review the rules regarding the use of substitutes for Parent Obligations in our Substitute Policy.
