Sleepy Hollow Swim Programs

Competitive Swim Team

The Sleepy Hollow swim team is a competitive team for swimmers ages 4 to 18.  The goal of the team is to provide a positive, competitive environment, foster Legend Pride and prepare the swimmers for the season ending championship meets.  Sleepy Hollow provides some of the best stroke technique training in the county.  Along the way, swimmers will learn several life-long lessons of commitment, hard work, goal setting, team spirit and sportsmanship.

Swimmers are expected to attend practice on a regular basis beginning in the spring, commit to the team process and must compete in meets.  In addition, swimmers must have achieved a minimum skill level for their age (based on their age as of June 15th of the current year).

Swim Team Requirements*

9&up:  Swim 25 yards of freestyle with proper side breathing and 25 yards of backstroke.  Should have some experience with all four competitive strokes. Strong enough to participate in daily 1 hour swim workouts. Must be able to dive.

7&8: Must be able to swim 25 meters of catch-up with proper side breathing.  Must be able to kick 25 yards on back. Must be strong enough to swim multiple laps during the course of a practice. Must know how to dive.

Mini-Legends

Mini Legends – evaluation week starts Monday, June 11, 2018.   All Mini’s come Monday thru Thursday 9:00-9:40 am, for assessment and evaluation.

  • Be willing to swim in the deep end

--------------

The Mini-Legend program is a pre-team program for kids ages 4-6.  This is a bridge program between competitive swim team (where kids develop the competitive strokes and compete in meets) and the learn-to-swim program (where kids develop the foundations of swimming and water safety).  Mini Legends is a developmental program for children who already have mastered basic swimming skills and meet the minimum qualifications.

Requirements for Mini-Legends are (space limited to strongest 24 kids):

  • Must be at least 4 years old.
  • Must be able to swim unassisted with breathing.
  • Must be water safe and comfortable in the deep end.
  • Must be able to listen and follow directions.
  • Must be able to focus in a group workout.

Potential Mini-Legends will go thru an evaluation to determine if they are ready for the program.  It is highly recommended that potential mini-legends take some lessons prior to the evaluation to brush up on their swimming skills.

Summer Competitive Lesson Program:  The competitive lesson program offers small group instruction to our competitive team members. The purpose is to accelerate development and swim technique with hands-on, in-water instruction.

Summer Learn to Swim Program:  The learn-to-swim program offers small group in-water instruction to swimmers ages 3 1/2 and older. This program ranges from teaching water safety skills up to and including teaching advanced skills to swimmers who want to develop their strokes in a non-competitive environment.

The learn-to-swim program is the first step in a young swimmers' progression to joining the Mini-Legends and/or competitive team.

Spring Programs

The following programs offer swim team participants an opportunity to get a head start on the upcoming swim season. The focus is skill development.

Spring Clinics (March): The swim team will offer pre-season clinics to swim team members. Clinics will provide outstanding technique development to swimmers interested in getting a head start to the upcoming swim season. Clinic information and registration is available on the team website.

Clinic Requirements: 5&6 year olds must be team ready - swimming catch -up freestyle with side breathing. All 7&Up swimmers must be able to swim 25 yards freestyle with proper side breathing.
