Sharks Overview

General Timeline
Late February: Returning member registration
Mid March: New member registration
Late May: Team practices begin
June: Competitive swim meets begin
Late July: Championship meet

Regular team practices are in the mid to late mornings, 5 days a week, Monday through Friday.  6 & Under (U6) practice is 45 mins and all other age groups practice for 1 hour.  (May practices have a different evening schedule.  Regular practices begin in June.)

Swimmers should plan to attend daily practices.  Swimmers under 10 are strongly encouraged to participate in swim lessons through the season.

Meets are every Saturday.  At a regular meet, the Sharks compete against one other team from the Tri Valley Swim League at the Cabana Club or the host team's pool.  Swimmers should plan to attend almost all regular meets.

The last meet of the season is the Championship meet ("Champs") where all teams of the Tri Valley Swim League compete.

Evaluation Goals (based on age on June 1)

6 & under: Enter the water unassisted and swim one length Freestyle (25yds) of the pool. Show backstroke as well. We’re looking for confidence and initiative.

7/8: 25yds (one pool length) of Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke. Knowledge of Butterfly is preferred, but not required.

9/10: 50yds Freestyle & 25yds of Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly. Swimmer is timed.

11 & up: 50yds of all four strokes. Racing dive. Swimmer is timed.

Parent Participation & Volunteering

The Sharks swim team is a volunteer-based organization and every family is required to serve: you’ll work at each meet in which your swimmer participates or the equivalent on a parent committee.  This builds our community, as families have the opportunity to work together and collectively support our swimmers.

Registration Fee: covers Coaching, Facility rentals, Equipment and Operating Costs to support daily practices and meets.  In 2022, the registration fee is $220 for the first swimmer and $200 for additional swimmers in a family.

Team Swim Suit & Cap: In 2019, swim suits were in the range of $56 (boys') to $74 (girls') and swim caps were $7.

Volunteer Deposit Check: Each family provides a $100 check, which is held and not deposited.  It is held until volunteer work is complete, then the check is shredded.  If you do not fulfill your volunteer requirements, we deposit your check.

Coaches' Gifts: Suggested $25 donation per family used to purchase gifts for the coaches at the end of the season.

Available spots

The availability of spots in each age group varies from year to year.  However, we are always in need of 6 & under swimmers who meet the evaluation goals mentioned above.

Many of our ages groups are often full, but we are always looking for 6 & Under swimmers.  If your child will be 4, 5 or 6 on June 1st, or you would like to be placed on our waitlist, please contact us.

Registration opens up for returning members first. After we know our availability in each age group, we will then open up registration to new members.
