REGISTRATION CLOSED (IMPORTANT DETAILS BELOW)
After much discussion, petitioning, evaluating, meeting, and planning, we have some good news: There will be a 2020 Season for the Bridlewaves!
Of course, this will not look like any other season we’ve ever had - it is already significantly different - but it will be memorable and fun and most importantly, SAFE. Here’s the scoop. (Keep in mind that simplicity and flexibility are the keys to success this summer).
The Bridlewood community is opening their pool under Phase 3 restrictions on Monday, July 6th. Two days later, we plan to start our practices! We expect the season to run from Wednesday, July 8th and continue through Saturday, August 15th. A lot of things are up in the air at this point, but here’s what we hope to offer and what you can expect.
For the registration price of $100, your swimmer will get to participate in our one-of-a-kind five and a half week season and will get at least 2-3 practices each week (AM practices only) as well as up to 5 Saturday competitions (time trials, intrasquad, etc.). Our swimmers will get to experience the famous coaching styles of Coach Mark and his amazing cohorts, Coach Jeremiah and Coach Lauren. Each swimmer will also receive a 2020 BWaves team shirt.
If everything goes really well and the statewide re-opening process stays on track, we may be able to add some other things into the mix as well, but we can’t promise anything other than we will try our best to make this season the best shortened season in the history of Bridlewaves shortened seasons. Our first priority is safety and fun is a close second.
Because we do have restrictions on how many swimmers can be at practice at the same time, we can’t advertise practice times and groups until we have the registration rolling, but we will try to get every swimmer the most pool time possible. This restriction also means that parents are not going to be allowed on the pool deck during practices. Feel free to hang out in the parking lot or watch from the fence, but we’re going to keep the deck reserved for swimmers and coaches (and the occasional Board member for supervision). Simply put: less traffic, less bodies, less likelihood of something going awry.
A couple other items of note (these are reiterated in the registration process). Swimmers will be expected to:
- Provide a daily health questionnaire / waiver form each time they attend a team function . Health forms must be signed, dated, and turned in before entering the pool deck area.
- Practice social distancing guidelines at all times.
- Wear a face covering when and where appropriate.
- Show up to practice on time (5-10 minutes before start) and ready to swim. We are minimizing the items brought into the pool deck and limiting bathroom usage to emergency use only.
- Stick to their assigned practice time. No swapping time slots.
- Clean up after yourself. Do not leave trash behind, etc.
- Stay home if you feel sick, have symptoms, or have been exposed to someone who has symptoms. Please also inform the team if you get sick so we can take appropriate action
Please know that these guidelines are only in place to ensure the safety of our swimmers, coaches, and the team at large.
All swimmers must be able to independently swim 25 meters on their stomach and 25 meters on their back. At this time, we are only accepting swimmers who participated with the competition team (BWaves) last season (or seasons past) or swimmers with verifiable swim times (all four strokes) who were previously registered for the 2020 Summer Season and/or are residents of the Bridlewood Community.
We are not having a Guppy season this year and we are not conducting swimming evaluations in efforts to simplify the registration process and keep everyone safe. If you have a swimmer who needs lessons, we encourage you to reach out to our sponsors, Occoquan Swim Academy ( https://www.teamunify.com//team/pvos/page/lesson-registration/learn-to-swim) or Swim Kids (https://www.swimkids.us/locations/gainesville) to see what programs they are offering.
Again, this is going to be a season like none other - one you will remember forever. And although there are still a lot of things that are up in the air, we are asking for your trust. We want what’s best for our swimmers and we will do everything we can to make this season amazing. Coach Mark, Jeremiah, and Lauren are all really excited to see their swimmers again and we the Board can’t wait to see the season come together.
We understand that some may be wary of signing up and some may not be ready to get back to normal activities. We hope you know that we are taking this seriously and have put a lot of thought into how to make this season safe and fun. It means a lot to know that you trust us with your swimmers and we hope you know that we do not take that lightly.
One last thing... Due to the uncertainty of the governing regulations that may affect the swim season, we will offer a 50% refund for registration IF the season is cancelled prior to July 27. After that date, all fees are non-refundable.
In order to guarantee that your swimmer can participate during the first week, please register no later than noon on Monday, July 6th. Any registrants after that time may be asked to wait until the second week to begin practices because practice groups must be assigned in order to avoid overcrowding.
We hope you join us for a season to remember.
