Purchasing a team swimsuit is not mandatory; however, it is highly encouraged. If you choose not to purchase a designated team suit, please select a red, black, red/black, or red/black/white colored option. When recognizing our team swimmers during meets, coaches and team photographers use the Lancer color scheme to differentiate our swimmers from other participants. Also, in order to lengthen the lifespan your team swimsuit, coaches recommend purchasing an additional, inexpensive, practice suit. Practice swimsuits can be any color/design, but should still fall into the performance/competition style category.
CAPS AND GOGGLES
In addition to a swimsuit, swimmers will need competition goggles and a swim cap. Similar to the swimsuits, goggles should be competition/performance style goggles. Speedo Vanquishers and Speedo Vanquisher Juniors (pictured right) are popular among Lancer swimmers. Competition goggles can be purchased thorough the SwimOutlet.com team store and/or at Dick's Sporting Goods (13080 Worth Ave, Dale City, VA 22192). Please refrain from purchasing recreational goggles from Target, Wal-mart, Costco, etc. Recreational goggles are often inconsistent in their quality and do not hold up to competitive swimming activities (push starts, flip turns, dives, etc.). For recommendations and pros/cons of different goggle brands, types, and styles, be sure to ask any of the Lancer coaches!
Coach Kristen requires that all girls and boys, with long hair, wear a swim cap during practices and swim meets. Swim caps come in various designs and materials. Again, please be sure that swim caps come from the performance/competition category. Latex and silicone are the two most common materials for swim caps. Latex is the simplest and most cost effective of the two; however, silicone provides a smoother surface and reduces drag during a race. When it comes down to it, picking a cap is what's most comfortable to your swimmer. It is a good idea to purchase a few different caps to have on hand. As they get older, caps can stretch out and break. Lancer team caps are available for purchase on deck during practices from Diana Ross.
Beginning with morning practices, Lancer swimmers will need swim fins. Using fins during workouts is extremely beneficial, especially with the younger age groups. Benefits of fins include improving body positions, increasing cardiovascular fitness, increase ankle flexibility, and encouraging a faster kick once the fins are removed. Through our SwimOutlet.com team store, Coach Kristen has selected three (3) comparable fin brands for families to choose from, ranging in price from $20.00 - $26.00. Please use these as a guide for all fin purchases.
