History of the Veterans Park Marlins
The Veterans Park Marlins has been a community-based competitive recreational summer swim team in Woodbridge for over 30 years. We were one of the very first summer swim teams in Prince William County. The team was originally called the Marumsco Marlins, named after the surrounding Marumsco communities.
We are a non-profit summer recreational swim team in accordance with IRS 501(c)3. The organization is managed by an elected Board, who volunteer throughout the year to plan and execute the summer swim season.
The team provides a coached age group program, catering to beginner swimmers as well as to the most skilled swimmers. We strive to teach the swimmers the values of sportsmanship and teamwork.
The team competes in the Prince William County Swim League against teams of approximately similar size to maintain a fair competitive environment.
Our team exists to develop in the children involved in this program, a love of the sport, and to advance swimming skills, teamwork, and the principles of good sportsmanship.
Our team revolves around competitive and recreational summer swimming, while also having fun, building swimmer confidence, and making new friends. Our season runs from the day after Memorial Day and ends the last weekend in July.
All children from ages 4 to 18 are welcome to join the team, however, we cannot provide swim lessons. If your child has never swam before, please visit your local Prince William County Recreation Center or visit www.swimkids.us for information on swim lessons.
We have coaches on staff with years of swimming and coaching experience to guide children through all the strokes to improve their technique and skill level.
