Normandy Park Swim Club Annual Letter

A Message from your newly elected NPSC President:

Seeing all this snow makes me even more excited for pool season to start! In fact, my oldest daughter has already started a countdown to when the pool opens, only 80 days as of February 15th.  I am honored and excited to serve as the NPSC Board President, as Gary Bolma has stepped down after his many years as our President. Thank you, Gary for all the wonderful years of hard work and dedication you gave to NPSC.

As a brief introduction, I am Michelle Sipes-Marvin and for the past seven years my family and I have been members of NPSC. Like I mentioned above, every year we count down the days until the pool opens. My husband, Casey and I have two daughters, Parker (11) and Cooper (turning 9), who are very active around the pool and on the swim team.

As it is time to start preparing for the summer, we are getting everything lined up, hopefully, for many fun and sun filled days at the pool. Our board has been working hard to ensure everything is ready to go! As most everyone knows, in August the General Membership passed, by majority vote, approval to begin the needed renovations of our club as soon as the pool closes in September. I can’t wait to see the finished product, we are going to have a beautiful facility to be extremely proud of.

This summer, we welcome back Kerry Johnson and Kelli Foster as our Pool Managers. Thank you for coming back and all your hard work keeping everything running smoothly all summer. Currently, we are in the process of hiring our coaches, guards and swim instructors.

Be sure to come out for our Annual Work Parties. The first work party is scheduled for April 20th, be sure to check the website for updates. Volunteering is a great way to meet new and old members and is greatly appreciated.

With less than 12 weeks to go, mark your calendars with all the fun around the corner. We have Work Parties, the Annual Cinco de Mayo Party, Floats and Floaties, Swim Meets, Dive Meets and more! Every day we are one day closer to fun in the sun!

I look forward to continuing our rich history of community, family, strong Swim and Dive programs and most of all FUN, during my time as your NPSC President.

Michelle Sipes-Marvin

NPSC President

Opening Day: Friday, May 10th 4pm

Ice cream will be served to celebrate the pool opening around 6PM.

A Renovation Update

As you know, last summer the membership voted to fund and move forward with an office and bathhouse renovation.  Our architects at McNelis Architects have been working hard on the project and everything is on schedule. They have made incredible progress with the design and drawings, have coordinated with numerous consultants; including geotechnical engineer, wetland biologist and structural engineer and have adjusted plans accordingly.  In addition, they have begun communicating with the city of Normandy Park in order to prepare for a successful permit submittal. The next step in the process is to find a general contractor. To do this, McNelis Architects will send Request for Qualifications (“RFQs”) to multiple builders in the area. These RFQs will be diligently reviewed by McNelis Architects and members of the NPSC Board. A general contractor is expected to be selected sometime in March.  If you or someone you know would be interested in learning more about the RFQ, please send an email to our npscimaginethefuture@gmail.comaccount.  It is very exciting to see the project moving forward and it won’t be long before we are all enjoying our new space.
