6U Safety Check

Hello 6U Families!

Thank you for registering your child for the 2019 TAZ swim team. To ensure your child’s safety and preparedness for swim team, we require all newly registered 6-Under swimmers to participate in, and pass,a mandatory swim safety check. It’s important for the coaching staff to assess swim ability before official practices begin to make sure your child can fully participate. If your child was on 6U last year or participated in the Spring Clinic, they do not need to attend the safety check. We will offer two dates for the safety test so please review the options below and make note of the time slots by last name.

SAFETY TEST #1

DATE: Saturday, April 6, 2019

LOCATION: CSD Pool

TIME: 1:30 - 2:30 PM, Last Name A - I

2:30 - 3:30 PM, Last Name J - Z

SAFETY TEST #2

DATE: Saturday, April 13, 2019

LOCATION: CSD Pool

TIME: 1:30 - 2:30 PM, Last Name A - I

2:30 - 3:30 PM, Last Name J - Z

Please confirm your attendance at one of the safety tests by marking an X on the following Registration Sheet.

Safety Check Prep

Please arrive on-time for your group’s scheduled safety check. There will be a check-in table upon arrival, so please sign-in your child and pick up their number which will be called when it’s their turn to complete the swim test. Your swimmer must be ready to swim when his/her number is called so please have goggles and/or swim cap on. The coaching staff will explain to the swimmer what they need to do. Each swimmer will have one opportunity to complete the lap so it’s important they are prepared and we ask that parents do not approach the pool or coaching staff during the testing times as they are evaluating each swimmer carefully.

What to Expect

To pass the safety check, each swimmer MUST successfully demonstrate:

1. Able to jump in the water, touch the bottom of the pool and return to the wall.

2. Jump into the water feet first and begin swimming.

3. Demonstrate Freestyle while swimming across the entire length of the pool with minimal stopping (no hanging) on the lane lines.

4. Demonstrate swimming with their face in the water.

5. Deep water safety (able to swim in the deep end).

Coaching staff will be assessing from both ends of the pool and a coach will be in the water swimming along the side should your child need assistance. You will be notified within 24-hours by the Registrar if your child has passed the swim safety check. If your child does not pass the safety check, TAZ will refund your registration fees within 10 days. Encourage your child to continue practicing and we’ll hopefully see you next year!

Thank you and Good Luck!
