Please join us in welcoming back our fantastic Head Coach Ryan Fish, and returning Assistant Coaches Sarah Woods & Madison Whartenby. We are excited to welcome long time Willowdale member Katie Suarez to our coaching staff.
Our coaches encourage kids of all ages and ability to join – every swimmer is a valuable member of our team!
Head Coach Ryan Fish
Ryan has been the Head Coach with Willowdale for 6 seasons and has 6 years’ experience coaching all levels of competitive swimming. He has coached at Burlington County College for the Jersey Devil Rays swim team. He also coached the Rancocas Valley Regional High School Girls Swim Team in 2011. Ryan was a competitive swimmer for Westwood Swim Club from ages 4-18 and a 4 year varsity swimmer at Rancocas Valley where he specialized in the breast stroke and individual medley. After graduating high school Ryan attended Wesley College, Dover DE and played 4 years of NCAA soccer and tennis. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree and is currently a health and physical education teacher as well as a USA Swimming coach for YBCC. He enjoys spending free time with friends and his awesome dog Toby.
Assistant Coach Sarah Woods
Sarah grew up in Cherry Hill. She swam for Old Orchard for 13 years, and was also a swim instructor for Old Orchard’s Learn to Swim program. Sarah swam for Cherry Hill High School East for 3 years and earned varsity letters all 3 years. Sarah currently attends Messiah College where she swims for the Falcons and has helped her team win the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships for the past 3 years. This past year, Sarah earned All-MAC Second Team Honors in the 200 breaststroke, as well as All-MAC Academic Honor Roll. This will be Sarah's 3rd seaon as part of the Willowdale coaching staff is looking forward to another great season!
Assistant Coach Madison Whartenby
Madison was a swimmer for 7 years at Westwood Swim Club where she finished her swimming career. She also assisted in teaching the younger swimmers in the ripple program under head coach Allison Brick for 4 years. She was a 3-year varsity swimmer at Rancocas Valley Regional High School where she swam freestyle. She is a recent graduate of nursing school and is excited to begin her RN career. In her spare time, she enjoys exercising and spending time with her family and friends. This is Madison's 2nd season with the Willowdale Swim Team and cannot wait to see what this season has in store!
Assistant Coach Katie Suarez
Katie has been a member of Willowdale Swim Club since the age of 1, and was on the swim team for 11 years, specializing in backstroke and freestyle. She has swam at both Jersey Wahoos, and YBCC Phoenix for the winter swim seasons. Over the past 3 years she has been a Training Squad, and Learn to Swim instructor at Willowdale. Katie swam for four years at Cherry Hill East, and was the captain for her senior year, swimming in the state finals alongside the team. She is now a rising sophomore at La Salle University, and is majoring in Middle Level Special Education, with a concentration in History. In her free time, she still loves to swim, and go to the beach as much as possible. Katie is excited to begin her first coaching season at Willowdale, and hopes to make it a great one!
