Minnetonka has been a USA Swimming Make A Splash partner since 2011.

Make a Splash educates parents and communities through a national awareness campaign, to save lives by joining forces with grassroots learn-to-swim programs. The focus of the program is the importance of learning to swim and being safe around the water.

As a water-based community, Minnetonka Aquatics is committed to carrying out the district's mission that everyone learns to swim.

Whether or not you plan to head to the pool, water is all around us—in rivers, lakes, drainage ditches, even large puddles. Equip your child or yourself with this life skill and you'll also be opening a door to all the fun and fitness the water can provide!
Do you need another reason?  Consider the following:
  • Minnesota ranked 2nd last year in deaths by drowning

  • Drowning is the 2nd leading cause of childhood unintentional death for children under the age of 14

  • Ten people drown each day in the U.S

  • 40% of Caucasian children,  60% of Latino children, and 70% of African American children cannot swim

  • If a parent does not swim, there is only a 13% chance that a child will learn to swim

Participation in formal swimming lessons could reduce the likelihood of childhood drowning by 88%.

Make a Splash Local Partner Program provides Minnetonka Aquatics with information and opportunities to offset the costs of swimming lessons and education. To learn more about USA Swimming's initiative to save lives through Make A Splash, click here.
