2017/2018 Recap

Reno Aquatic Club's 2017/2018 Recap

As head coach, I took over the program in January of 2018. It was a bit of a challenge to take over in the middle of the season, but I am very happy with how the swimmers performed! A big thank you to my coaching staff for all the great coaching and support during the last 8 months.

At the beginning of 2018, Reno Aquatic Club had 2 swimmers with Sectional time standards. Now we have 8 with Sectionals, two with Futures, and one with Winter Junior Nationals.

Our age-group swimmers picked up many new Far Western, JOs, Nevada State qualifying times, and made the RENO top-10 times list in multiple events. In addition to all the new time standards, RENO swimmers achieved numerous best times throughout the season – especially at the championship meets.

I can confidently say that RENO swimmers achieved more new qualifying standards and improved at a greater rate than any other team in our area. The fun part… we are only getting started!

Team Records

In the past 45 years, RENO has produced many accomplished swimmers. From top-to-bottom, our records are the fastest team records in the region. So, when a swimmer breaks a team record it is a very big accomplishment.

The past year we had two swimmers set new team records:

Addison Crain – 11-12 girls 100-yard butterfly (1:01.15). She broke Holly Burton’s record of 1:01.73 set in 2009.

Emma Karam – 13-14 girls 100-meter backstroke (1:06.15). She broke Robbin Thien’s record of 1:08.13 from 1978 – yes, 1978! Emma also set the 13-14 girls 200-meter backstroke record (2:20.28). She broke McKenna Meyer’s record of 2:24.77 set in 2012.

Congratulations Addison and Emma!

Conclusion

RENO had a tremendous success in the pool last season! More importantly, every swimmer on the team has made noticeable improvements. Swimming is such a great sport to prepare swimmers for life beyond the pool. Everyone on RENO is learning valuable life lessons – time management, goal setting, hard work… just to name a few. Thank you for being a part of RENO and I look forward to an outstanding 2018/2019 swim season.

Thank you!
