  • Olympic Trials qualifier
  • National top-10 times
  • High School All-American
  • Nevada State Champions
  • Far Western Champions and Far Western High Point winner
  • Multiple Pacific top times
  • 17 Reno Aquatic Club records
  • 18 months ago, RENO only had two Sectional qualifiers. Now the team has one Olympic Trials qualifier, two Junior National qualifiers, three Futures qualifiers, and ten Sectional qualifiers
  • The team has grown 35%
  • Evans was named Pacific Zone-4 Senior Coach of the Year for the 2018/2019 season
  • Evans is a Level 4 American Swim Coaches Association (ASCA) Coach in both Achievement and Education categories

As Head Coach, Evans is responsible for the overall coaching, development, and direction of the team. His goals for the team and swimmers include:

  • Establish RENO as a premier team on the West Coast
  • Every swimmer that progresses through the program has an opportunity to continue swimming in college.
  • Developing fast swimmers but, more importantly, helping swimmers acquire life skills that will make them successful beyond the pool.

As a swimmer, Evans competed for Reno Aquatic Club for 15 years. During his time on RENO he competed at Junior and Senior Nationals and was named a High School All-American. Evans attended the University of Iowa and swam for the Hawkeyes. While at Iowa, he was the captain of the team his senior year and won the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award. Evans is currently obtaining his Master’s of Science in Management and Leadership from Western Governors University.

Outside of the pool, Evans enjoys spending time with his wife Lauren and their two children, Alta and Michael.

Melanie Klaren - Senior Assistant Coach

Melanie Klaren joined the Reno Aquatic Club coaching staff in the fall of 2017. She has made a tremendous impact on the team and has helped get the age group and senior program headed in the right direction.

Before Melanie joined RENO, the team did not have any 10-under swimmers with Far Westerns or Pacific JO time standards. With Melanie coaching the Orange group – the top group for swimmers 12-under – she developed two Far Western qualifiers and several Pacific JO qualifiers. In addition, several of her swimmers were selected for the Zone 4 All Star team, qualified for the State Championship, recorded top-times in Pacific Swimming, and posted all-time top-10 times for RENO.

While working with the Pre-Senior/Senior groups, Melanie helped develop many swimmers who have posted top-10 all-time Reno Aquatic Club times and have qualified for Far Westerns, Western Zone Senior Championships, and more. She also coached a swimmer who was selected for the Pacific Western Zone All Star Team.

As a swimmer, Melanie had an outstanding career. She competed collegiately for the University of California, Berkley. While at Cal, she was a member of the NCAA Championship team. Melanie represented Team USA and at World University Games and finished her career competing at the 2016 USA Olympic Trials.

Head Coach, Ryan Evans, on Melanie:

“Melanie has done an outstanding job for Reno Aquatic Club. She does a great job bringing energy and enthusiasm to the pool deck every day. She has developed strong connections with each swimmer and helped them become very successful in and out of the pool. She has made a very big impact on the team, and I am thankful she’s on the coaching staff.”
