Assistant Coaches

Ashley Weldon

Ashley Weldon began her swimming career at the age of three years old on the Fairfax Station Flyers Mini Team in 2001, and her love for swimming quickly grew, inspiring her to join the Mason Makos Swim Team at six years old for competitive swim. Throughout her childhood, she alternated from competing on the Fairfax Station Flyers Team during the summer and the Mason Makos Swim Team year-round for fifteen years. During her high school career, she swam on Robinson Secondary School’s Varsity Swim Team and the Mason Makos Senior Team. In 2014, she received the Coach’s Award from the Flyers and in 2016, she received the Joan Olson Scholarship Award from the NVSL.

Ashley has just finished her second year at the University of Virginia, where she is majoring in Politics and English. She is a proud member of her school’s Club Swim Team and Class Council. Ashley is extremely enthused to return this summer as an Assistant Coach for the Flyers, where she hopes to bring back a love for swimming and improvement, and re-instill sentiments of spirit and gratification in all of the Flyers.

Lauren Sawyer

Lauren Sawyer is an Assistant Coach this year for the Fairfax Station Flyers. She has been a Flyer for the past 14 years, and will be swimming her senior year with the team this summer as well. Lauren started swimming year-round in her 8th grade year with Machine Aquatics, then in her Junior year of high school she transferred to swim with the Mason Makos. She has swum with W.T. Woodson high school’s varsity team for her four years of high school. Lauren has been coaching for the Flyers for the last five years during the winter swim program, and has volunteered to help coach during the last couple of summers as well. She will be attending Penn State University next year, majoring in Aerospace Engineering with a minor in Marine Sciences, and she plans to swim on the Penn State club team.
