Training Groups

The Summit Area YMCA swim team offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is the goal of the Summit Area YMCA to offer age specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of THEIR abilities.

This is an entry level group. An athlete will need to be able to complete a length of the pool in all four strokes during tryouts.  A good guide to determine if your swimmer is ready for tryouts would be that they can complete one length of the pool freestyle in 25 seconds or less. We take on the team 7 and 8-year-olds.In rare cases, an advanced 6 year old may be admitted to the team.

Practice Times Fall Season: Sun 11:30-12:30pm, Mon, Tues, Thurs 6:15-7:15pm, Wed 6:30-7:30pm


This is also an entry level group. 9/10's are asked to complete 2 lengths of the pool in all four competitive strokes. They should be able to do flip turns. A 50 freestyle should be completed in 36 seconds or less.

Practice Times Fall Season: Sunday 11:30-12:30pm, Mon-Thurs 4:30-5:30pm



Juniors are our middle school swimmers with ages ranging from 11-14 years. Swimmers in this group will usually have 3 or more years of competitive swimming experience. Swimmers will be encouraged to attend 4 to 5 practices per week and swim for 1 1/2 hours for each practice. Dry-land (strength training) practice is introduced and swimmers are expected to attend 1 or 2 of the 3 dry-land practice per week.

Practice Times Fall Season: Sunday 1-2:30pm, Monday-Thursday 5:30-7:00pm, Saturday 12:15-1:45pm



Seniors are our high school age athletes. Seniors are offered 7 two hour practices per week and are encouraged to attend as many practices as they can. Seniors who reach the Championship or National level have additional practice requirements. It is recommended that swimmers in this group do outside strength and cardio sessions either one on one or in small groups with a trainer.

Practice Times Fall Season: Sunday 8-10:00am, Monday-Thursday 7:00-9:00pm, Friday 6:45pm-8:15pm, Saturday 12:15 - 2:00pm
