Group Information

Junior Development

Ages: Grades 5-6

Prerequisites: Must be able to swim one length (25 yards) of the pool demonstrating freestyle and backstroke staying horizontal from the head to the feet.

This group is for beginning swimmers still learning the 4 competitive strokes. Beginners will learn about competitive swimming strokes and will work towards being introduced to competition. Swimmers will have 3-4 scheduled practice sessions per week. Progression to the next level would be either Yellow 2 or Senior Development.

Senior Development

Ages: Grades 7-8

Prerequisites: Must be able to complete all requirements of stroke school or advance from Yellow Groups or Junior Development.

Prerequisites: Must be able to complete all requirements of stroke school or advance from White Groups

The focus of this group is to refine and continue to develop the swimmer’s skills. Conditioning and endurance training are also introduced. As with Stroke School, White, and Yellow Groups all of the swimmer’s other activities, such as soccer, baseball, dance, etc. are encouraged. Swimmers generally compete in Sandpiper hosted inter-squad and sanctioned invitational meets and are encouraged to attend at least 3-4 of the 1 1/4 - 1 3/4 hour practices offered each week. More experienced swimmers generally compete in local "BRW" level swim meets. Skills are still being developed to advance to the next level.  Advancement would be to Age Group Prime or Senior.
