Premier Team Tryouts - SUMMER 2018
ONGOING, BY APPOINTMENT ONLY
Premier Team commitment sign-ups for the 2018-19 swim year will be in July, 2018.
Please text 424.901.3702 to set up your evaluation!
Year-round Team Qualifying Standards:
Premier Team swimmers are expected to attend a minimum of 3 practices per week through 4th grade, unless they are in Stroke Academy 1 and are offered practices 2x/week. Once they are in 5th grade the expectation increases to a minimum of 4 days/week. In middle school and beyond, 5x/week really becomes necessary if continual progress is to be made. We understand that not everyone can make this commitment, so for kids who want to swim, but not with the commitment needed for Premier Team, we do offer Advanced Squad and High School Varsity Squad.
Ages 5-6: must be able to separate from their parents with ease, swim 25 yards of unassisted freestyle with side breathing, 25 yards of backstroke, and have some knowledge of breaststroke OR butterfly.
Ages 7-8: must be able to separate from their parents with ease, swim 50 yards of unassisted freestyle with side breathing under 1:15, 25 yards of backstroke, and have some knowledge of breaststroke OR butterfly.
Ages 9-10: must be able to separate from their parents with ease, swim 100 yards of unassisted freestyle with side breathing under 1:50, 25 yards of legal backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly.
Ages 11-12: must be able to separate from their parents with ease, swim 100 yards of unassisted freestyle with side breathing under 1:40, 50 yards of backstroke under 1:20, and 25 yards of legal breaststroke and butterfly.
Ages 13 & up: must be able to swim 100 yards of unassisted freestyle with side breathing under 1:20, 100 yards of backstroke under 1:25, 100 yards of legal breaststroke and butterfly, one of them being under 1:30. Swimmers who cannot meet these standards but can swim 100 yards of unassisted freestyle with side breathing under 1:30, and 100 yards of backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly, will be recommended for our Varsity Squad program.
Transfer swimmers: If you are moving in to town and have been part of a swim team and are looking to continue swimming in the South Bay and to transfer your USA Swimming membership to ZAP, we will will schedule an evaluation any time of the year and place you in the group that best suits your current needs.
If you are a local resident and are looking to transfer teams, please email firstname.lastname@example.org so we may set up a family interview.
Visiting swimmers: If you are visiting the area and are on a swim team and are looking to swim while you are in town, please email email@example.com so you may be placed in the best group for your current level while you are here.
Parent involvement is critical to the ongoing growth of our team. When you enroll a swimmer(s) on the team you are also committing yourself. Parents commit to staying updated on all official ZAP communication, driving swimmers to and from practices and meets so they are on time, working with coaches to teach and expect self-reliance, hard work, and commitment to each swimmer they enroll on the team, and to volunteering at all meets (ZAP hosted and "away"), as well at various social events.
If I don't qualify for the year-round team, is there a place at ZAP that I can swim? YES! Based on the coach's evaluation, we will recommend you for one of the following: Swim Squad, Swim Academy, JG Prep, Prep Plus, or Lessons.
We can answer questions about practice times, meet schedules, tuition, etc once a swimmer has been evaluated. For general info you can check out the different programs described throughout the website.
