Group3

Group 3 - Coach - John Dalton

Ages: 10 - 13

Daily Training: 90 - 100 minutes, 6 times per week

Attendance: Strongly encouraged to attend 5 times per week

Practice Times: Mon-Friday 3:45 - 5:30 PM, Saturday 6:30-8:00 AM

Goals: The goals for Group 3 are to begin to solidify the technical mastery necessary for senior level success.  Athletes will be asked to demonstrate excellent technical proficiency while being introduced to more physical stressors.  Thus, the primary "training" element to this group is geared toward focusing under duress.  Additionally, body position, underwater work, stroke timing, stroke count, and kicking will be centerpieces to their technical foundation.  Athletes will also begin to gain a solid understanding of racing, including understanding of splits, race strategies, and individual strengths and weaknesses.

Admittance Requirements: Athletes must demonstrate a proficiency of the requirements listed for graduation from Group 2, including Junior Olympic qualifying times (11 and over) or Far Western Qualifying Times (10 and over).  Coach discretion is the primary factor for admittance to this group.

Progression to Pre-Senior Requirements: May include the following, but ultimately up to Coach discretion!

  • Junior Olympic Qualifying Times (Age 13 and above)
  • Far Western Qualifying Times (Age 12 and above)
  • Excellent Attendance (Both practice and Meets)
  • Leadership
  • Willingness to CHANGE
  • Attention to Details!
  • Effort
  • Dedication to the Sport
  • Commitment to help Teammates
  • Physical readiness (moving athletes when they can physically handle more demands)

Dryland: A focus on building better athletes.  Includes running, body weight exercises (squats, pushups, planks), breathing exercises, postural awareness, medicine balls, core-work, jumping, etc.

Equipment: equipment listed below must be purchased before the start of the season and must be brought to every practice. Check with the coaches for purchasing sources:
