 PRACTICE SCHEDULE & PRACTICE PHILOSOPHY

The Turlock Swim Club will be built on a developmental coaching philosophy. The training program
will be tailored to the physical and emotional development of the swimmer, and will incorporate a
variety of techniques. The approach will be a highly motivational one that focuses on individual
improvement and fun swimming. The coaching staff will communicate the practice attendance
expectations. TAC relies upon a cooperative effort between the coaching staff, the swimmer and the
swimmer's parent/guardians.

The practice schedule is determined by Pitman High School pool availability and is subject to
infrequent minor changes. When there is a practice cancellation or change, swimmers will be
notified via email. Please check email daily for swim team notifications.

GENERAL SEASON PLAN FOR SWIMMER DEVELOPMENT

We will stress both the biological/physiological and mental/psychological aspects of athlete
development. It is important for not only coaches, but also swimmers and parents to understand
the physiological development of the athlete so that we may work together to maximize the
potential of the swimmer.

CYCLE I -PRESEASON AND "STROKE CLINIC" (MID AUG-MID NOV): We will progress each week
from Freestyle to Back to Breast to Fly to IM teaching stroke drills and technique training as well as
starts, turns, and finishes. The goal is to lay the foundation for a successful season. There will be
more "teaching" and development of technical skills. There will be a focus on developing good
practice habits such as getting in on time, warming up/down, pace clock use, streamlining, starting
and finishing at the wall, etc. Main focus on younger swimmer and non-polo high school swimmers.
Team bonding team relay sets including all ages, abilities, and levels.

CYCLE II -AEROBIC DEVELOPMENT (MID NOV-MID FEB): The goal is to consolidate training and to
lay the foundation to meet the physical demand requirements of the season. We will begin
developing a conditioning "Base". More emphasis on specialty stroke drills and technique training
will occur. Prepare high school swimmers for high school season. Continued emphasis on fun,
encouraging swim practices. Recruit, recruit, and recruit. Skills and drills stroke clinic, as well as an
underwater videotaping/and analysis.

CYCLE III -ANAEROBIC DEVELOPMENT (MID FEB-MID MAY): Gradual shift from quantity intense
training to quality speed work. Aerobic "maintenance" work will still occur. All swimmers will focus
on developing proper technique, pacing & racing strategies for all strokes and distances. Relay
Team bonding and technique work. Continued recruitment and with help of high school coaches
having TAC swimmers continue to practice with TAC.

CYCLE IV -RACE SPECIFIC DEVELOPMENT/TAPER (APRIL TO AUG): Development of the racing
attitude with particular emphasis on specialty race technique (mental & physical). Improvement of
tactical skills, starts, turns, finishes, pace judgment and race rehearsal. Taper high schoolers for
specific meet. Taper for age-groupers for specific meet. Recovery of physiological systems as the
body commences the super compensation phase. Commitment to the high quality efforts and the
necessary rest, relaxation and nutritional components that is essential to the taper phase. New
recreation program with hopes of having many continue on with TAC club swimming.
