Paragon Age Group Swim Coach

Job Description: Paragon Training is looking for a part-time age group swim coach to work with various development groups in their USA Swim club.

Reports to: Head Coach

Weekly Hours: 8-20 hour per week. More hours available for weekend swim meets and private swim lessons.

Qualifications: 18 years and older. Must have high school or college swim experience and be familiar with USA Swimming.

Compensation: $12-$18/hour

Desired Start Date: August 31, 2020

General Expectations

  • Take initiative in evaluating the success of their training programs and the performance of their athletes.
  • Be a person of good character and a positive role model/mentor to the athletes.

  • Create a safe environment, both physically and emotionally, for athletes to develop.

1. Coaching Excellence
a. Set an example of excellence to the athletes every day.
b. Develop a relationship with athletes and seek to mentor them as PEOPLE first and foremost.
c. Develop a passion for sport in athletes and teach them a lifelong love of swimming.

2. Daily Coaching
a. Prepare daily workouts for group(s) assigned to.
b. Oversee the development of athletes in the group. Use teaching techniques in accordance with age and ability level.
c. Teach and instruct athletes in proper stroke, turn, and start mechanics.
d. Prepare athletes for competition in USA Swim meets, as they become available.
e. Maintain control of the group being coached and ensure that all workouts and activities are performed in a safe manner.
f. Practice times approximately 10:00 AM - 3:30 PM Monday-Thursday. Some flexibility as coach may not be needed the entire time.

3. Competition
a. Share in the responsibility with other team members of coaching at various swim meets throughout the year.
b. Evaluate the performance of athletes after competition and adjust training accordingly.

Primary Purpose:
Provide swim instruction in a safe, positive learning environment. Assist in supporting the mission and vision of Tiger Shark Swim Team and promoting our programs throughout the community. Qualifications: Education/Certification: College degree (preferred) Current American Red Cross Life Guarding/First Aid Certification or its equivalent American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer or its equivalent American Red Cross Coaches Safety Training certification USA Swimming Certification

Position Responsibilities:

Coaching:

  • Establish an environment that fosters positive team attitudes while teaching self-discipline, sportsmanship and responsibility.
  • In coordination with the head coach, develop and maintain seasonal and quadrennial plans for the progression of our age group program and develops innovative techniques that show success and improvement. (This includes yardage and technique progressions, as well as how the groups are being challenged through competition and differentiated for movement up the team roster groups).
  • Develop and implement team and individual goals with the swimmers and the head coach and monitor the progression of the athletes and team in reaching these goals.
  • Implement TST swimming and dryland curricula for all groups to promote stroke development and physical conditioning appropriate for the athletes' current level of fitness and physical/emotional development, while maintaining an appropriate level of challenge necessary to produce improvement in speed, fitness, and progression.
  • Provide social/emotional support for athletes and differentiated programming to meet each athlete's needs.

Administration:

  • Demonstrate a cooperative, responsive and respectful communication style with swimmers, parents, community members, members of the staff, and board.
  • Effectively supervise and delegate responsibilities for assistant age group coaches. This includes practices as well as meets.
  • Practice continuous improvement and professional development for self under the direction of the head coach.
  • Support all aspects of daily club operation in support of the swimmers, membership, and team mission and values. Strong organizational skills are a must.
  • Create and submit meet entries in a timely manner.
  • Assist in the tracking of swimmer participation and improvement in meets.
  • Maintain and update website information regarding practice schedules, meet entries, news, etc.
  • Various administrative functions such as practice scheduling and coordinating activities with the aquatics director and head coach.
  • Work with the head coach to ensure club mission, vision and values are achieved.
  • Act as a team representative while attending LSC meetings.
  • Maintain accurate records of individuals and relay performances, meet participation, practice attendance and more.
  • Under the direction of head coach assist in the creation and implementation of policies to ensure the safety and success of all members.
  • Maintain professional standard of safety, appearance and readiness.
  • Facilitate and participate in club fundraisers.

San Antonio WAVE seeking site Director in Smithson Valley

SAN ANTONIO WAVE is looking for an experienced team leader to serve as a Site Director for our Smithson Valley location. Smithson Valley / Spring Branch, is about 40 minutes north of San Antonio.

Below is a quick description of the position. Interested parties should contact Scott Gainey (scott@sawave.org) for a detailed list of responsibilities.

Primary Responsibilities
Oversee the operation of their WAVE practice location daily. Work with Head Coach to achieve seasonal goals for the WAVE.

Typical Duties

  • Responsible for ensuring a safe practice environment. Report issues to Head Coach.
  • Work with Head Coach, to resolve facility issues, including safety, water, and air quality.
  • Ensure WAVE equipment is maintained and serviced/replaced, as necessary.
  • Responsible for supervision and mentoring of site coaches.
  • Assist Head Coach with performance reviews.
  • Assist Head Coach with swim meet entry process (verify coach selections).
  • Assist in creating and participate team bonding activities.
  • Meet with Head Coach regularly to ensure continuity of the WAVE program between pools.
  • Schedule and evaluate tryouts for new swimmers.
  • Attend swim meets.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the Head Coach.

Position Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED (some college)
  • Ability to stand and walk on a pool deck for prolonged periods of time
  • USA Swimming Coaching Credentials (current / acquired within 60 days)

Preferred Requirements

  • Coaching experience 4+ years of coaching
  • ASCA Level 2 or higher certification
  • Experience supervising & mentoring staff

Compensation

  • Starting at $18 per hour (depending on experience)* @ 20+ hours / weekly
  • Typical schedule = 4p - 8pm weekdays (depending on location and need)
  • Paid for administration work: (swim meet entries, creating workouts, evaluation of staff)
  • Additional compensation / schedule opportunities for weekends and swim meets
  • Reimbursements: out of town swim meets (mileage and meals)
  • We pay for professional memberships (ASCA / USA Swimming / Certifications)
