Practice Groups


This is based on the age, ability level, and maturity of each individual. When it is in the best interest of a swimmer, he/she will be placed in a more challenging training group by the coach.

Fall 2020 Season Begins Tuesday, September 8th!

This is our planned practice schedule based on the information we have at the moment. This practice schedule could change at any time due to the situation with the COVID-19 virus.


Swim Prep/Platinum: Ages 5-8

The Swim Prep group is for entry level swimmers. Instruction will focus on introduction to the four competitive strokes, legal stroke technique, kicking, streamlining, underwater butterfly kicks, and finding joy in the sport of swimming.

Requirements: Swimmers must be able to swim 50 yards freestyle unassisted and without stopping. 


Bronze: Ages 7-10

The Bronze group is for development level swimmers. The swimmer will receive instruction in the fundamentals of the four competitive strokes, learn how to read a pace clock, improving freestyle and butterfly kicking as a strength, introduction to start and turn techniques, and preparing to enter USA Swim meets.

Requirements: Swimmers must be able to swim 100 yards of freestyle demonstrating side breathing and have a basic knowledge of the four competitive strokes.


Silver: Ages 9-12

The Silver group will being to work on more extensive aerobic development while also improving race tactics and competition skills. Coaches will refine the swimmer's strokes to reach a higher level of efficiency and effectiveness. Pacing and interval training will be introduced at this level. This group will demonstrate mechanically efficient technique in each of the four competitive strokes, starts, and turns.  

Requirements: Swimmers must be able to swim a 200 yard freestyle unassisted in less than 4:00 minutes and show a legal 50 in butterfly, backstroke, and breaststroke.


Gold: Ages 12-16

(11 year olds with a "B" time or better and 9-10 year olds with an "A" time or better may contact us about swimming with this group)

The Gold group is for older, more accomplished and motivated age-group swimmers. Training emphasis will focus on perfecting individual technique and endurance.  Swimmers are provided the conditioning and technical background to prepare for local and state levels of competition, and they will compete in meets throughout the year. Workouts will range from 2,000 to 3,000 yards per session. 

Requirements: A swimmer must be at least 12 years old to enter the Gold group. A swimmer must be able to perform the set: 6x100 freestyle on 2:00 interval/yards.


Gold Group at JCC: Ages 13-18

This is our evening high school practice for public school swimmers, or athletes who live closer to the JCC and wish to train with us there. Both competitive and non-competitive focus groups are available. To learn more about this practice group, please visit the JCC website HERE.

Requirements: A swimmer must be able to perform the set: 6x100 freestyle on 2:00 interval/yards.


Senior: Ages 13-18

The Senior group is for older Age-Group swimmers who are 100% focused on performance and achieving STAGS, TAGS, and Sectionals time standards. Swimmers should be self-motivated and driven to work hard and improve. Practices will be extremely challenging and designed to push athletes both mentally and physically. Swimmers will be chosen for this group based on technique, training ability, and maturity. Training volume will remain high throughout the year, averaging 4000-6000 a practice. Athletes will be expected to have 80% or better attendance to remain in this group.

Requirements: At least one "A" time standard for appropriate age group and be able to make the set 10x100 yards freestyle on 1:30.
