Practice Group Descriptions

 

SWIM OHANA

2019-2020 Practice Group Descriptions

  • New athletes must schedule an evaluation before registration for appropriate group placement.
  • USA Swimming Full or Flex Membership Required.
  • NWAL Summer League swimming is permitted in all groups.

Pink Group:

  • Age: Any
  • Two thirty-minute practices per week
  • Requirements: Can swim length of pool unassisted.
  • Goal: 50 freestyle and backstroke with legal starts and turns.
  • Equipment: long blade fins and kickboard
  • This group is designed for beginner swimmers who are working towards proficiency in freestyle and backstroke including starts and turns.

Blue Group:

  • Age: Any
  • Two thirty-minute practices per week.
  • Requirements: Can swim 50 freestyle and backstroke with legal turns.
  • Goal: 100 IM and 50 of all strokes with legal turns.
  • Equipment: long blade fins and kickboard
  • This group is designed for beginning swimmers who are proficient in freestyle and backstroke and are working towards legal breaststroke and butterfly including starts and turns.

Pre-Junior Group:

  • Age: Any
  • Two forty-minute practices per week
  • Requirements: 100 IM and 50 of all strokes with legal turns
  • Goal: 200 IM and 100 of all strokes.
  • This group is designed for swimmers who are proficient in all four strokes and turns and are looking for an introduction to interval training for competition and/or fitness.
  • Equipment: long blade fins and kickboard

Junior Unlimited & Junior Group:

  • Age: 7-14
  • Three or more 60-minute practices per week
  • Requirements: 200 IM and 100 of all strokes
  • Goal: 400 IM, 500 free
  • This group is designed for swimmers who are proficient in all four strokes and turns with capability to swim 200 or more of all strokes looking to increase their interval training for competition and/or fitness.
  • Equipment: long blade fins, kickboard, pull buoy

 

Junior Select:

  • Age: 11-14
  • Eight 60-90 minute practice per week
  • Requirements: Coach invitation only, 90% attendance
  • Goal: Competition
  • This group is designed for swimmers who are focused on qualifying for GULF Champs, TAGS, and beyond.
  • Equipment: long blade fins, kickboard, pull buoy, paddles, snorkel, tempo trainer

Senior Unlimited & Senior Group:

  • Age: 14-18
  • Up to 6 90-minute practice per week
  • Requirement: Proficiency in all four strokes with ability to complete 400 IM and 500 free
  • Goal: Competition and/or fitness
  • This group is designed for high school athletes who are looking for fitness and/or supplement to high school team participation, and excel in USA Swimming on local, Sectional and National Levels.
  • Equipment: long blade fins, short blade fins, kickboard, pull buoy, paddles, snorkel, tempo trainer, noseclip, & TYR band

College Group:

  • Age: Any athlete enrolled in full time college  
  • Follows all attendance, requirements, schedules, equipment needs, etc, of Senior Unlimited Group

Masters Group:

  • Age: 18 and up
  • Unlimited attendance
  • Requirements: None
  • Goal: Fitness, Competition, Triathlon Training
  • Equipment: Long blade fins, kickboard, pull buoy, paddles,

Summer League Prep:

Coming in January 2021

  • This group is designed for summer league swimmers who are looking to prepare for the upcoming season.
  • Equipment: Long blade fins and kickboard
