2014 Summary

  • January - Race Swami opens the new year with a number of new grants awarded including the Larry H Miller Foundation, which allows the organization to purchase much-needed training equipment, including three new VASA Trainers for it's athletes
  • February - Race Swami announces partnership with Neighborhood House, a daycare service provider serving youth in Salt Lake's west side communities
  • February - Race Swami awarded two more grants; one from the Women's Catholic League and another from the City of Salt Lake, to help supplement scholarships to under-served west side youth
  • March - Race Swami performs well at the 2014 Utah Age Group Swimming Championships, with more local athletes than ever (seven of eight) representing the club at the championship meet. Team finishes 20th overall, with the girls team finishing 15th. 
  • April - Peyton Ledbetter (11-12 Girls) and Marcela Vasquez (17-18 Girls) qualify for Speedo Series Short Course Far Westerns Meet, held in Morgan Hill, CA in April 2014.
  • April - SWAMI awarded a $10K grant from the Gardner Company that allows program to purchase team gear including: team suits, team shirts and team parkas
  • May - Twenty SWAMIs travel to Cedar City for the SUSA Memorial Day Weekend Invitational held on the campus of Southern Utah University. It's the first team-wide, overnight Travel Meet in the team's history
  • June - SWAMI awarded grants from Sorenson Legacy Foundation and McCarthey Family Foundation that allows program to continue offering a large number of scholarships to qualified, underserved youth
  • June - RACE SWAMI is featured on KUTV 2News' segment, Pay It Forward and is awarded a $500 gift from Mountain America Credit Union
  • July - SWAMI finishes in Top 20 at the Utah LC State Meet and team president Leslie Motley is awarded Utah Swimming "Volunteer of the Year"
  • August - The program grows to more than 65 swimmers covering four groups, an all-time high for the club
  • October - SWAMI hosts its first ever SWAMI EVENT on October 4th at Frida Bistro to celebrate the program's accomplishments in the Salt Lake west side community. More than 100 attend the festive event
  • October - SWAMI hosts its second annual Sunset Classic meet on Oct 24th, along with second meet the following day dubbed the Dia de los Muertos Invitational.
  • November - Race Swami receives large donation of racing suits (to be used at Championship level meets) from FINIS, a producer of innovative swimming and training equipment.
  • December - Annual Appeal called a huge success as SWAMI raises nearly $15,000 from friends and associates who are determined to help Race Swami "Make a Difference" to youth in Salt Lake City's west side communities.
