2013 Summary

  • January - Race Swami raises more than $50,000 for Year 2012 due to outpouring of foundations, friends and family.
  • February - Race Swami honored at Salt Lake Rotary luncheon and presented with a $1,100 contribution from the foundation.
  • February - Marcela Vasquez finishes 6th place in the state in the 100-yard breaststroke at the Senior State Meet in St. George, narrowly missing her first Sectional cut at age 15.
  • February - Race Swami's Executive Director and Head Coach Matt Finnigan named Utah High School Athletic Association 3A 'Coach of the Year'
  • March - Swami's Zerin Wolfgramm (10 & Under) breaks 7 state records on his way to winning all 8 individual races he competes in at the 2013 Utah JO Championships.
  • March - Fanetupou Wolfgramm sets two new state records at the JO Championships, giving Race Swami a total of 9 new state records. Team finishes 15th overall with 6 total athletes
  • April - Race Swami receives a financial contribution from JEPS Foundation of Salt Lake City and more than 60 swim training suits from Speedo USA
  • May - Race Swami experiences a terrific month for fundraising, receiving gracious contributions from McCarthey Family Foundation, Intermountain Healthcare, and Sorenson Legacy Foundation
  • May - Race Swami is highlighted on host Chris Redgrave's radio program, "Speaking on Business," sponsored by Zions Bank
  • June - Race Swami receives contribution from local foundation that enables Swami swimmers to attend area swim meets for 12 months by covering their meet fees
  • June - Race Swami hosts 2nd Annual Swami Fiesta in the Park to celebrate the accomplishments of the young non-profit organization. The Fiesta includes homemade meals from many diverse cultures that reflect the Swami Community.
  • July - Race Swami and the Guadalupe School team up for a second summer of swim classes with more than 50 kids from the Rose Park school participating
  • August - Race Swami concludes another successful long course season campaign with more athletes than ever competing for the club. Every swimmer receives a Swami Certificate of Success at the team banquet along with cool Swami gear!
  • September - Race Swami appears in Intermountain Catholic newspaper with featured article regarding the renowned outreach swim program
  • October - Race Swami hosts first ever USA Swimming event held in Rose Park as well as it's first swim meet as an organization; it's dubbed the SWAMI Sunset Classic and is held at the Northwest Rec facility
  • November - Swami awarded a substantial grant from the George S and Dolores Doré Eccles Foundation
  • December - Another wave of outpouring by the community in support of the Swami Mission, thus closing out the most successful fundraising year yet by the program
