Words of Wisdom to Your Teammates-Your teammates are the best support system you have. Keep them close because when it gets tough, your teammates are really going to be able to help keep the fun in swimming. And definately don't let a bad race define the rest of your meet.

Sophie O'Donnell

High School-Western Albemarle

Year Started with CYAC-2011

Favorite Events-100 butterfly, 200 free, 200 backstroke

Plans for Fall of 2020-I will be attending the University of Kentucky where I'll major in sociology.

Favorite or Most Memorable Race or Accomplishment in Your Career-My favorite race was at the 29 Cup when I swam the 500 free. The Lynchburg swimmer was seeded almost :10 ahead of me, but I was able to catch her during the last 100 and win the race.

Most Memorable Moment with CYAC-The team travel trip to Cincinnati, specifically going to Kings Island because it was a really fun day with my teammates and a nice way to end the trip.

Favorite Set with CYAC-3 x (4 x 50 IMO :45/100 free 1:10/100 easy free/100 IM drill) followed by 600 IM for time off the blocks 75-50-25 (:10 rest of each stroke).

275-300-325-350-375-400-425-450-475-500 (:20 rest)

Words of Wisdom to Your Teammates-Enjoy every practice and race as much as possible. There will be days you don't want to do whatever grueling set Mike gives you, but you have to. If you embrace the pain in training, you'll be able to let go when it's time to complete. That being said, swim every race like it's your last. With the severity of Covid-19 causing the YMCA to cancel Nationals, I never had the chance to compete at my final championship meet. I encourage you to always give 100% when you compete and race with no regrets, knowing when you've finished your race, you gave it your all.

High School-St. Anne's Belford

Year Started with CYAC-2017

Favorite Events-50 and 100 freestyle.

Plans for Fall 2020-Swarthmore (swim) Class of 2024.

Favorite or Most Memorable Race or Accomplishment of Your Career-Dropping 4.5 seconds in the 200 IM to get my first Y Nats cut at HS States last year.

Most Memorable Moment with CYAC-Winter training every year was probably the highlight for me. We worked hard every morning and since none of us had school or work we hung out a lot. It was prime team bonding time and I very much enjoyed spending quality time with my teammates during the most rigorous training of the season.

Favorite Set With CYAC-18 x 100

Least Favorite Set with CYAC-(Same as Noah Hargrove)

Off the block 16 x 400 7:00 (1-8)/8:00 (9-16)

2-50 all out/350 dps

3-75 all out/325 dps

Add 25 all out per 400

Words of Wisdom to Your Teammates-I hope my teammates remember that every day is an opportunity to improve. While just getting to practice at the crack of dawn seems like half the battle, it's actually what you accomplish when you get there that defines who you are as a swimmer. Even though everyone has off days, if you know that you gave each and every workout all you had then you will be content with your results by the end of the season. Also, don't ever take the sport for granted, make sure you enjoy every moment with your teammates. For me, being literally and figuratively immersed with a group of people, very similar to myself, with shared goals and aspirations makes me feel like I belong to something great and it should make you feel that way too.

Tyce Winter

High School-Western Albemarle

Year Started with CYAC-Competitively in 2017

Favorite Events-100 breaststroke

Plans for Fall 2020-Swimming for and attending USNA beginning June 2020.

Most Memorable Moment with CYAC-Couch wars with Lynchburg at SC Y Nats.

Favorite Set with CYAC-Pretty much any lactate set off the block. 75's on 5:00 are always fun.

Least Favorite Set with CYAC-Anything that says best average. 200's are the worst in general.

Words of Wisdom to Your Teammates-I returned to swimming my sophmore year. If anyone feels like they're running out of time to achieve their goals, I promise you aren't. Just keep pushing, you'll get it. Also listen to "Kiss From a Rose" every time before you race. Life altering experience.
