Exploring (Ages 7-10)

This group is our fundamental training group for 10 and under swimmers. Explorers will build a strong foundation in technique while developing a love for swimming and racing! Proper starts, turns, steamlines, underwater kicking, and stroke development will be the focus, while learning to swim some longer distances and build confidence. We recommend at least 3 practices per week for this level. Swimmers advancing out of this group in the future will feed into Learning 1 or 2. Swimmers in this group should register for USA swimming and plan to compete at our SMAC fall invite in November and District championships in February. All other meets are optional. Commitment Aug-May. June/July optional.

Learning 1 (Ages 9-11)

Learning 1 is the next level of training for swimmers ages 9-11. Swimmers in this group have met minimum requirements set forth by coaches to prove they are ready for more advanced training. The focus of this group will be on consistently maintaining skills such as proper streamlines, breathing patterns, underwater kicking and stroke technique, while beginning to build endurance. Racing strategies and pace work will be introduced.  A goal for swimmers in this group is to be able to complete 16 x 50s on the 1:00 and swim a 200 IM in under 4:00. The focus of this group will be achieving B, BB and A times.  Swimmers advancing out of this group in the future will feed into Learning 2 or Dreaming. Swimmers in this group should plan to attend our SMAC Fall Invite (Nov), Hoki December Champs, District Champs (Feb) and Age group champs (March) if qualified. All other meets are strongly encouraged, but optional.   Participation in championship meets is expected at this level. Swimmers are expected to compete in every event offered for their age group (within reason) during a season. Coaches will select events as they feel swimmers are ready. Commitment August - July

Learning 2 (Ages 11-14)

This is our fundamental training group for swimmers ages 11 to 14.  Swimmers in this group are working towards perfecting the fundamental skills of swimming while building more endurance. Learning 2 swimmers are older and able to understand more complex stroke explanations. Swimmers will use drills and training equipment such as swim paddles, snorkel, pull buoy and kickboard to fine tune swimming skills. Focus in this group will be on consistently maintaining vital skills such as proper streamlines, breathing patterns, underwater kicking and stroke technique, while being introduced to progressively longer sets throughout the season. The focus of this group will be on achieving 11-12 B/BB times. Learning 2 offers two options based on commitment level. Swimmers may choose a 4 day a week option or a 6 day a week option. Swimmers advancing out of this group in the future will feed into dreaming or performing. Swim meets are optional for this group, but strongly recommended. Coaches will select events at meets as they deem appropriate to the swimmer’s physical and emotional development. Commitment August - May. June/July optional.

Dreaming (Ages 10-14)

This group is by coach's invitation only and is our top 12 and under training group. This group may also suit older swimmers who are playing multiple sports. Swimmers in this group have mastered basic technique, are able to race competitively in all four strokes, and are ready to work on more advanced skills including race strategies in longer events. Swimmers in this group will continue to work on basic technique, but will prioritize building endurance and race strategies.  Dreaming is a bridge between our learning groups and our advanced age group program (Achieving). Swimmers are expected to develop exemplary leadership skills in and out of the pool. This group will be working towards 12 and under age group cuts and 13 and older B/BB times.  This group offers 6 x 1.5 hour practices per week. Four or more practices per week are recommended for this group and swimmers will spend an average of 2-3 years in this group, preparing them for more advanced training at the pre-senior/ senior level. Swimmers advancing out of this group in the future will feed into Achieving or Performing.  Required meets for this group include SMAC fall invite (Nov), Swim and Tri Christmas meet (Dec), District/Regional Championships (Feb) and Age group championships (March) if qualified. Swimmers are expected to develop exemplary leadership skills in and out of the pool.
