Advancing Group

Advancing Group- 6:45-8:45 PM (13-18 years)

This practice group is intended for swimmers ages 13 and older who have demonstrated a commitment to swimming and aspire to compete at the regional or national level. This group follows a 9-month training schedule. The training plan is created with the needs of the group as a whole in mind and assumes consistent practice attendance and participation in several meets. Because of the increasing developmental needs of the Advancing group, swimmers in this group are expected to attend 4-6 practices a week. Accordingly, there is no 3-day option for this training group. For swimmers new to Gators and swimmers between ages 12-14 who have not previously practiced with this group, movement into the Advancing Group requires explicit approval from coach JJ.  Approval to swim in this group will be given to swimmers possessing both tangible and intangible criteria as listed in the full practice placement requirements. Swimmers who do not meet the performance standards below should register for the 6 Day Progressing Group practice. In general, swimmers in this group will have the following:

  • 11/12- A time in 2 or more strokes, IMX > 1800
  • 13/14- BB time in 2 or more strokes, IMX > 1200

IMX score = sum of USA Swimming power points for 200 Free, 100 Back, 100 Breast, 100 Fly and 200 IM

Training standards for this group include the ability to swim 20-30 min sets on the following interval bases:

  • 8 X 100 @ 1:45 freestyle swim
  • 8 X 50 @ 1:10 kick, 2 out of 4 strokes
  • 6 X 50 @ 1:00 fly/back/breast
