2018 Somerset Stingrays Swim Team Update

Swim Team Registration

Registration for both Swim Team and Club Membership is open now and available online at somersetrec.org/membership

This year, we are launching a new Swim Team platform - Team Unify.  This is a web and app based program for communication, volunteering, swim meets, etc.  You will receive instructions to register for Team Unify.  Each family will only be able to use one email!! If you have multiple people that will want access to the swimmers’ info, then you will need to create a common email and password that all can access and use to log onto the site and app.

Until we are ready to go live with Team Unify we wanted to give you some important dates and info.

Opening Day for Somerset Rec Club:  Saturday, May 12th

We’ll have a Swim Team table set up from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. to answer questions.  This year we are encouraging online registration.  We will have devices available on opening day for you to register onsite or we can assist you on your own device.  Feel free to stop by to meet your team reps and coaches!

Swim Team Coaches:

We are thrilled to welcome back Head Coach Erica Johnson along with our Assistant Coach Will Delbrueck.

Swim Team Fees:

Swim Team fee ware $160 for both Swim Team and Sharkies.  The Swim Team season has typically been 10 weeks, but this year we are starting one week earlier, for a total of 11 weeks (thru B Champs).  This represents a GREAT VALUE for a daily activity!  If your swimmer attends all practices (41), it equates to $3.65 / session.  This doesn’t even include the 10 swim meets.

Volunteer Fees:

The Volunteer Fee will be $300.  If you child only participates in the Sharkies program, there is no volunteer fee.  Once your volunteer requirements are met, the fee will be refunded at the end of the season.  See below for additional information regarding volunteer opportunities.

New to Swim Team - Assessments:  Monday, May 14th 5–7 p.m.

Any new Swim Team participants plus previous year’s Sharkies must be assessed to determine whether they will be a fit for Swim Team or Sharkies.  Sign-up for your assessment time slot at the Swim Team table on Opening day between 1-4 p.m. or after Opening Day via email requests to srcswimteam@gmail.com

Parent Team Social / General Meeting:  Monday, May 21st, 5-7 p.m.

There is no required parent meeting this year.  Instead all communications and forms will be available via Team Unify or SRC Website.  However, please join us for a general social gathering where you can ask questions of the swim reps and SRC Board Members.

Team Gear

Team Suits: We are excited to announce that we have selected a new team suit at a much lower price point then in previous years.  We are hoping that this will allow all swimmers to be in a team suit for meets.  All team suits will need to be ordered online through our team store at www.swimoutlet.com/somerset.   Additional items, such as goggles, extra practice caps, bags, deck coats, etc. can also be purchased through our team store.  We are also able to customize items, for an additional charge, with the Somerset logo and swimmer names.  If you would like to customize items please let us know and we can get those items added to the team store.  Somerset Swim Team earns 10% back on all items purchased directly through this link.

Team Caps: are required for swim meets and will be available for purchase during practice at the pool (they are not available on Swim Outlet).

*To ensure that there are no disqualifications at swim meets your swimmer must be in either a team suit and cap or wear a plain black or plain red suit and cap with no logo.

Suit Fitting Day:  Monday, May 21st 4-6:30 p.m.

We will have one suit in each size that your swimmer can try on before their practice time over their dry suit.  Fittings are not required but are offered.

Volunteer Commitment / Sign-Ups

Volunteer shifts and sign-ups will be handled through Team Unify this year.  You will be invited to sign up for shifts once your swim team payment and online registration forms are complete.  It takes a lot of volunteers to run swim meets and volunteer hours fluctuate each year, based on the number of swimmers / families signed up.  The volunteer requirements have not been set for this year, but will be similar to previous years (give or take).  Please be patient.  With this new system, we may have some kinks to work out, but hopefully Team Unify will simplify the volunteer process in the end.

Junior Member Volunteer Shifts

Junior Members and / or their parents are required to sign up for the required volunteer shifts.  If a Junior Member’s parent is unable to volunteer, then the Junior Member is responsible to schedule his or herself.  If the shifts are not completed, the $300 deposit will not be returned.

Sharkies (Pre-Competitive Swim Team)

The Sharkies program is for swimmers who aren’t quite ready for competitive swim team, but want daily swim lessons in a team setting (coach will assess swimmers to determine right fit).  Families who only have Sharkie swimmer(s) are not required to volunteer, as this is a learning year for both your swimmer and your family.  Your swimmer is invited to swim a 25 yard exhibition event at the start of every home meet.  You will receive more information from the coaches once meets start.

Time Trails and Tie Dye - Sunday, June 3rd starting at 4 p.m.

Time Trials will be held on Sunday, June 3rd, beginning at 4 p.m. Time Trials are

Set-up like a meet, allowing each swimmer to set an initial time in all 4 strokes. These times then give the coaches a baseline for setting up swim meets.  Time Trials also help familiarize volunteers, new swimmers, and their families with how a meet runs.

Tie Dye will begin early at 3:30 p.m. for 8 and under swimmers.  Tie dying for all other registered swimmers will begin at 4 p.m.
