LITTLE BADGER GROUP DESCRIPTION
The Little Badger group is the first of our three ‘foundational’ groups and is for swimmers between the ages of 5-8. Practices last for 60 minutes and there are 2 practices a week offered. The expectation is that a swimmer is attending 3 practices every two weeks, although there are no attendance requirements for our foundational groups.
Little Badgers serves as a bridge between basic swim lessons and USA Swimming. In one sense it could be considered a higher level lesson with a competitive slant. Swimmers will focus on the very basics of the four competitive strokes, as well as starts (dives), turns, and finishes.
Most Little Badgers are new to USA Swimming, though swimmers may spend more than one year in this group. They are generally young or newer to the sport, and the emphasis will be on learning and improving their basic strokes. The Little Badger group is offered during our fall, winter, and spring sessions, but not during the summer.
The overarching goal of the Little Badger program is to give young swimmers a solid foundation in the basics of the sport that they can then build off of. A huge emphasis is put on learning while having fun, and practices are kept short in recognition of the shorter attention span of swimmers this age. Basically, Little Badgers is a fun and exciting way to introduce your swimmer to USA Swimming!
