BARABOO Group Descriptions:

Baraboo Ribbon Group (similar to what BAM offered as their ‘Bronze’ Group) NO SPRING/SUMMER

This group is intended primarily for swimmers ages 9 and under that are relatively new to the sport.  Practices are offered twice a week for an hour.  The focus for the Ribbon Group will be on stroke development, with an emphasis on improved technique in all four strokes and improved skills like starts and turns.  Meet participation for this group is encouraged but not required.

Baraboo Medal Group (similar to what BAM offered as their ‘Silver 2/wk’ Group)

This group is intended primarily for swimmers between the ages of 9 and 12 that might have less experience in the sport or due to other activity conflicts are looking to only practice once or twice a week.  Practices are offered twice a week for about 90 minutes.  Medal swimmers will be introduced to different elements of training, but the focus will primarily be on technique and skill refinement.  Meet participation for this group is encouraged but not required.

Baraboo Trophy Group (similar to what BAM offered as their ‘Silver 3+/wk Group)

This group is intended primarily for swimmers between ages of 9 and 12.  Practices are offered 4 times a week for 90 minutes on average.  Swimmers in this group will generally be pretty confident in all 4 strokes, though technique will still be a primary focus.  Trophy swimmers will do more ‘training’ than other younger groups to prepare for their next level of swimming.  Swimmers in the Trophy Group are expected to attend meets – the lead coach can help determine the appropriate season schedule.

Baraboo Gold Group (similar to what BAM offered as their ‘Gold 2/wk Group)

This group is intended primarily for swimmers above the age of 11 who are interested in improving their swimming but not looking to make the practice commitments required of our Junior and Senior Groups.  Practices are offered twice a week, for 90 minutes.  Swimmers in this group can expect a mix of technical work as well as plenty of tough sets and training.  Meet participation for this group is encouraged but not required.

Baraboo Junior Group (similar to what BAM offered as their ‘Gold 3+/wk Group)

This group is intended for our most committed and serious swimmers ages 10-13.  Practices are offered 5 days a week for 90+ minutes, and the expectation is that swimmers are attending several practices a week on a consistent basis.  All of our groups always have a heavy focus on technique and stroke improvement, but Junior swimmers will often do that technical work embedded in longer sets or as a part of a tougher practice.  Junior swimmers are also expected to attend meets on a regular basis, and should work with the lead coach to determine a seasonal meet schedule.

Baraboo Senior Group (similar to what BAM offered as their ‘Gold Elite’ Group)

This group is intended for our most committed and serious swimmers ages 11 and up.  Practices are offered 5 days a week for 90+ minutes, and the expectation is that swimmers are attending several practices a week on a consistent basis.  Senior swimmers will generally have fairly refined strokes, and will continue to solidify that technique while doing the highest yardage and training load of any of our groups.  Senior swimmers will also have an expectation of regular meet attendance that can be worked out with the group’s lead coach.
