Juniors

 

 Age:

 12 years old and under.

 Ability:

 Beginning level for swimmers new to competitive swimming.

 Emphasis:

 To teach basic concepts of the four competitive strokes.

 Practice:

 2-3 per week recommended.

 Meets:

 Participation at each home meet is required. 25% participation at away meets is recommended.

Junior Elite

 

 Age:

10 years and older.

 Ability:

 Ability to race all 4 strokes with legal turns. evidence of strategy required. Ability to swim multiple repeats of 100 yards.

 Emphasis:

To improve physical conditioning through progressive, strenuous training. To introduce race strategy and strength training. The goal of the junior elite level is to qualify and compete at the YMCA State Championships.

 Practice:

3-5 per week recommended.

 Meets:

 Participation at home meets is required. 75% participation at away meets recommended.

Seniors

 

 Age:

13 years and older.

 Ability:

High skill/ability level in all four competitive strokes and superior level of physical endurance.

 Emphasis:

To refine and master technique in all four competitive strokes. To engage in highly strenuous physical training. To learn race strategy and implement that strategy at swim meets. The goal of each individual in Seniors is to qualify and compete at YMCA National Championships.

 Practice:

4-5 per week recommended.

 Meets:

 Participation at home meets is required. 90% participation at away meets recommended.
